This is a great start to a legendary character. It was nice to see how Drizzt got his start. Even though the Icewind Dale trilogy was written before this, I forgive Salvatore for the little blunder. Wulfgar was a good character, people just liked Drizzt better (the Icewind Dale trilogy is about the origin of Wulfgar, who was originally meant to be Salvatore's main character)

(SPOILER) It sucked how Zaknafein died, and how Drizzt is so naive about his own race, but Bob made up for it with an great story line.

If you liked this book, then I suggest you also go out and get 'Exile'.

The first and the best of the Dark Elf Trilogy written by R.A. Salvatore. Although most of the characters are rather schematic, the author shines in describing the unusual society of the drow, with a special regard to their family relationship. Action passages are pretty good, although they are overused in some parts.

Despite is shortcomings in characterization, the novel is very enjoyable to read and one of the best of its kind.
