Posted - 26 May 2005 : 04:46:56 There seems to be a new, spiffy addition to the WotC FR website: a Calendar Tool. Haven't had a chance to look at it in detail but it seems very handy. Good one, "powers that be".

It appears that the tool allows events to be displayed in either the Month view or the Historical notes.
The Month view displays daily events for that month (as you might expect), and the Historical notes section displays pretty much everything. Their really isn't a place to display events for a single year.
Where does it display them if you don't specify a month or a day? |

After checking out the Calendar Tool and its data files, I have some concerns. If I'm mistaken, please let me know.

Of course, I could always display the entire Grand History inside the Historical view, but I'm not sure what benefit would be gained by that.
I'm thinking of adding a new icon below the Month calendar / above the Moon Phases to display all events for the current year. The negative to that approach, of course, is that I'd be altering the core code. Perhaps I could speak with Wotc_Mark about the possible change.
Any thoughts?
Sounds like quite a pickle, and it probably wouldn't hurt to collaborate with WotC_Mark on that. |

A Grand History of the Realms was actually built from XML data files, so it would be fairly trival to build a data file for the Calendar Tool. I'll see what I can do.
Well met
Absolutely splendid This will be a great addition to the utility. I will gladly host the datafiles here for ye, Realmslore.

Excellent! I was hoping you'd take up that challenge!
The calendar utility is a nifty resource, and I've been a fan of your timeline since long before I came to this forum. Combining the two just seems a wonderful idea.
I should like to thank you in advance for agreeing to do that. You rule.
Hmmm... I might just wait and see what Realmslore comes up with then, before I try something of my own.

Actually, I was just thinking about that myself when I posted my earlier comments about add-ons for the utility.
I'll also see what I can do... .
Can't wait to see it then |

Posted - 26 May 2005 : 17:26:32 Okay, so who's volunteering to add the huge A Grand History of the Realms to the data files? |
The Sage |
Posted - 26 May 2005 : 07:02:26 Oh, don't worry, I intend to .
For starters... I'd like a little more information along with each calendar month -- maybe, brief notes on the most important events of that particular month or year for example.

Again, very nice. And very nifty .
I may just try tinkering around with a few add-ons for this.
Please do share, when you are done

Posted - 26 May 2005 : 05:48:34 I downloaded that calendar tool, and I hope the download is just as nifty as the one on the site -- because the online one is really sweet!
Customizable calendars of any month you pick (like Kythorn, 1359 or Flamerule 1201), with the holidays listed after it (just those 4 bigs ones and Shieldmeet). Plus you can check the lunar phases for every single day of the months you pick... Plus, when you pick a year, the name of that year is listed... And the little Y button on the side makes a separate window open with the entire Roll of Years listed!
It looks like there's some other options for tweaking, too, and some timeline references (though I didn't see how extensive those were).
This is truly nifty. I'm adding it to my list of useful links to share with people. |

Posted - 26 May 2005 : 05:39:47 The tool is quite good, as it's not just a mere calendar. It even gives you Selune's phases and names out certain special events that happen in a particular time. |
