Posted - 08 Feb 2005 : 15:25:25 My players are about to slay the BBEG (Kanyyr Vhok) this time around, not much I can do about it and I'm ready to let him go this time around. So, I'm looking for some ideas on where to go from there.
Some details: Currently they've chased him (Vhok) all the way to just a few day ride short of the polar ice cap(they really don't like him). :) They'll be level 15 very soon. They have they're own keep in the southern foothills of the Nether Mountains near a gem mine that they use to keep the place running, The keep is starting to become a small village or thorp by now and they've been wanting to go home for a while. They have an uneasy truce with the Morueme dragons, and the Lady's Hand monastery is not friendly to them. They have some unfinished business in Luskan (they don't know it but they've created enemies within the Arcane Brotherhood). They are beloved by Alustriel and are quite famous in Silverymoon. They are not fond of, but get a gruding repect from the Marchion of Mirabar.
The paladin has a prestige class called the Fist of Raziel, which I've tied into the Triad for Realms flavor. We have a ranger, and sorcerer/spellsword, and a rogue/sorc/arcane trickster.
I'd like to work the planes into this campaign somehow, but right now I'm stretched out for ideas. If you have some ideas for high level play or even no experience and would like to take a stab at me..er it, post them here.
Any questions or blanks I can fill in?
There is no such thing as a dumb idea!

The High Captains are controlled by the Arcane Brotherhood and the wizards themselves might use Luskan troops and guards to handle the PCs instead of getting involved and revealing themselves. |

How involved would the High Captains of Luskan be in intrigue? I'm thinking it would be almost impossible and the repercussions to great to go after the AB directly.
How wouild I impress upon the players the implications of going after Greeth directly?
Who would make a nice target to disrupt the Silver Marches alliance?

Posted - 13 Feb 2005 : 20:18:25 Elf_friend, you could include several pirate groups into this, as the Arcane Brotherhood always did have close ties with those people.
Like Kaladorm mentioned about the faction war, have maybe two rival pirate lords fight each other and getting the PCs involved in the middle of their feud.
Possible groups for the PCs to align with would possibly be the government of Ruathym. Ever since Luskan's invasion in 1361 DR, there has still been tension between the two cities and there are still some minor forces from Luskan on the isle. Perhaps Ruathym would assist the PCs' struggle against the Arcane Brotherhood. |

Posted - 13 Feb 2005 : 15:58:20 Maybe Shade is looking for some buried treasures in the area of the keep? Maybe the Arcane Brotherhood has learned this? After an exploration of ruins (maybe a long forgotten underground Kozah temple) in the Nether Mountains and dodging both groups the heroes find themselves on the Plane of Shadows and need to find the way back.
Just a thought. |

nnnnnNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo
Man I hate it when that happens

Basically my suggestion is to get an organisation involved rather than another BBEG, PCs will see through that one.
Good idea.

Maybe have this organisation harry them to the point that your PCs really want to strike back, then get a few rival factions involved and let the quests/people/storyline flow from there after they get involved in a little faction war.
I'm thinking the Arcane Brotherhood would suit me. I'm now reading everything I can get my hands on in reference.
I'm open to ideas on getting them to take the bait. :) And possible group(s) to align with?

Posted - 10 Feb 2005 : 00:43:39 Elf_friend, if you want to involve the Arcane Brotherhood and the Planes into your campaign, I suggest that you include the demonic allies of the Archmage of the Host Tower, Arklem Greeth. Arklem is partner with an erinyes named Nyphithys and perhaps you could have her call upon several devils to attack the PCs.
Like Ketinal suggested before, have them attack the PC's keep and gem mine to draw their attention. Then mislead the PCs into thinking that they have made an enemy outside of Faerun so they would turn their focus away from Luskan for the time being. |

Depeding on how upset members of the Arcane Brotherhood are they might either send an invitation for some event to take place in Luskan or might reached out directly or indirectly (hire assassin? for example) to cause problems at the keep.
I think I'd like to explore this one. I've already had some members of the AB attack them (from something they did a while ago to interrupt their plans) and the party sorcerer located one of them with a scry. I though this was cool, as he was scrying he looked out over a city on a coastline and made a scetch of it before the scry ran out. They don't know its Luskan that he sketched yet.

Big bad evil guy. :) What Kentinal said.
I'd love to hear any ideas you have. |

BBEG = Big Bad Evil Guy , or words to that effect. The major oposing force that the party has been contesting with directly or indirectly for many gaming sessions. Could run over years of gaming time.
It is time for current one to lose percause the PCs are leveling quicker then the BBEG has been doing. Also the players might be getting fustrated with the escapes or theme of not beating this person that has been giving them problems for a long time. The PCs will (from all indications) take out a evil power base , or at least hope so. |

Posted - 08 Feb 2005 : 15:47:48 Well if you want to work planes into it, one idea is to have planers raid the gem mine. That should get their attention.
Depeding on how upset members of the Arcane Brotherhood are they might either send an invitation for some event to take place in Luskan or might reached out directly or indirectly (hire assassin? for example) to cause problems at the keep.
Of course the Morueme dragons or the Lady's Hand monastery might seek to resolve issues to what they consider more favorable to them. Of course it depends what the issues are. The dragons might want some gems for example.
Of course the keep becoming more well known could attart interests of various factions that might might resting at keep not that easy (come up with new foe, perhaps Zents).
There of course might be friends or desendents out there someplace seeking revenge for those killed or perhaps just to recapture a family/land/powerful item that the party aquired.
Perhaps Vhok was a front for a level 20 master, that will get upset when party kills or otherwise tke out Vhok. You should develope a new BBEG if you wish to maintain a theme. That though does not have to be done now, take time to consoder what you want to do. You have enough posiblities already to at least vause them some problems. |
