Its been a qhile since I posted last on here but when you are busy what can you do?
Anyhoo, I just need some ideas/advice on my first campaign that I will be running in a few months time.
I am trying to get ideas for adventures based in the following scenario:
The pc's will be captured by a remote outpost of Bregan D'aerthe (sp?)situated near Gracklstugh (sp?) whose intention is to disrupt all forms of trade coming in and out of the City of Blades to aid in the war effort which currently has Menzoberranzen under siege from the Duegar.
The drow will enlist the pc's into their band and use them to further this goal and the pc's will be starting at 1st level.
My fist adventure entails their capture, rescue and initiation into Bregan D'aerthe. My second adventure has them securing some nearby caverns inhabited by some orcs and has some resources which may be of use to the outpost in future.
After this I am just looking for some ideas on further adventures for the pc's.
On a side note, the pc's will probably be aligned as neutral tending towards good but Bregan D'aerthe are willing to let them 'work' for their freedom which will involve a 1 year servitude to this outpost. |

Posted - 31 Mar 2006 : 08:15:36 It will still be a while away as i am planning this well in advance, i am currently playing in the City of the Spider Queen module and we are only about 12th level so it will prob only be near the end of the year before we start my campaign, I just want to create some adventures in advance as i will be quite slow at the beginning to create adventures as i am not that experienced as a DM |

It would be interesting to know what's going on in your campaign perphaps it could give the rest of us an idea or two of how to pull off something similar. |

Posted - 30 Mar 2006 : 11:51:53 Thanks for the feedback folks, I know running an underdark campaign at low levels aint easy but I bought the Underdark book and our group would like to try something different to the standard surface campaign. The outpost itself will use use basic strike squad tactics to aid in the war effort so the pc's will not be in all out war, what it does do is give the pc's a 'secure' home base and the will be dished out various tasks by the outpost leaders which will constitute their adventures. When they hit about 12 level I plan to hook them to the surface and then go onto a whole other detailed plot i have mapped out. |

Posted - 29 Mar 2006 : 06:04:32 I would say that low level characters put into a scenerio such as this could be tough. However, maybe you could have them do some smaller quests on behalf of Bregan D'aerthe to proove themselves so to speak and if they survive, can be entrusted to more "higher level" activities within the organization. Then when the year is over, "if" they are let go, the party could have the choice to remain as full fledged members, or at least have a good ally of sorts to back them up in the future |

Posted - 29 Mar 2006 : 05:57:25 Certainly, to take full advantage of the situation Kamber is designing it would be easier to have a mid level party. However, I have considered for a long time running a campaign based around a fledging drow house and it climbing the social ranks, which could support low-level PCs native to the Underdark. However, importing characters from the surface into an Underdark campaign at low-levels is difficult, while not impossible. |

But i wont play it before my players are about level 8-9... Minimum. I think it is importent to have mid-level players or higher to get full advantage of the many possibilities of the underdark. |

Posted - 27 Mar 2006 : 19:09:41 That is a tough spot to put a group of first level PCs. Although Bregan D'aerthe does provide you with a nice way of controlling the PCs. You could have the PCs have to escort a resupply caravan to the outpost through a dangerous section of the Underdark, or escort a messenger to Menzoberranzen from the outpost. |

Posted - 27 Mar 2006 : 18:19:06 Isnt 1st level rather inexperienced to be dealing with Bregan D'aerthe? But try to take a look in the Menzoberranzan boxed set. It contains a pretty good adventure...
You could also include the trading outpost that is used by all intelligent underdark races. Cant remember the name. It is a setting with lots of possibilities in it. All the evil races of the deep gathered in a single caverne to trade with each other... It is a disaster waiting to happen. |
