One of my players has yet to create a character for My Sword coast campaign but he has said he wants to play a Moon Elf

The other Players are running

Human Knight
Human Favored Soul of Helm
Human Bard

The party are missing a trap finder and an Arcane spellcaster so I was thinking of encouaging the player to run a character that aims for the Bladesinger or Eldrich Knight PrC

Class wise I was thinking of suggesting that he plays a Rogue/War Mage which would allow him to cast spells and still wear light armour

Background wise the character is a member of the Floshin elvn family and later in the campaign he will get a shot at recovering the Floshin family moonblade (my invention)

Any thoughts?

The Knights a no brainer it fits into the realms as is with out much need for fleshing out

Favored Soul Ive tied to the Time of Troubles, when the gods where living in the realms they affected people who came in regular proximity to them particularly children and unborn babies. Favored souls also appeared in areas where various gods died (Northern Cormyr, Tantra's, Shadowdale, Waterdeep, Undermountain/Skullport etc)
Children of chosen are also capable of becoming Favored souls due to the divine blood thy carry in their veins

War mages first start appearing during the Trial of Cyric the mad when Mystra refuses to provide waring armies on Faerun with destructive spells so Tempus and the Red Knight found several Arcane academies out of their more prominient temples, the War Mages still use the Weave but they worship Tempus as their patron deity and many of these War mages take the Arcane Devotee PrC.

The Scout I find needlessly duplicates the Rangers role

The Swashbuckler has to much of a "Musket wielding Age of Sail/Pirates" feel to it that doesnt fit with the Realms predominatly "Middle ages" flavour (Smokepowder is also banned in my campaign)

All nice work fitting them in, but I fail to see the correlation between a swashbuckler and smokepowder. To me, the archtypical swashbuckler is robin hood

and I love scouts. They are more than rangers to me, they are a nice blend of ranger and rogue

That actually makes me curious. You allow the Warmage, Knight and Favoured Soul but not others. Why? I can see reasons to include all three of those, though I'm not a big fan of the favoured soul. At the same time I can't see any reason to exclude classes such as the Swashbuckler; the Scout; the Marshal; the various Psionic classes; and others. None of them really seem out of place in the realms.

I agree with you except for the psionic stuff. I see reasons not to use any of it. I like the swashbuckler, scout, marshal, favored soul, knight myself. Though I wish they called the favored soul, the mystic, better name to me.

Another thing I noticed is none of the 4 characters have a Charisma lower than 14!

I was going to suggest beguiler or spellthief as well although the beguiler does have many of the same stuff as the bard.

Spellthief is interesting, or the Rogue/Wizard (and maybe take 1 lvl. of Duskblade for armored spellcasting) then go for Unseen Seer PrC from Complete Mage

I like Psychic Rogue http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040723b or Lurk from Complete Psionic

Hello-

I have a player in my game who is playing a Beguiler from PHII. It has some decent arcane spellcasting abilities - as well as some theifly abilities.

The player was origianlly going to play a Rogue to start and swap off some levels in Sorcerer.

So - you might want to look at that and see if it is of any use.
