Posted - 06 Jan 2007 : 17:01:50 The PCs are going to come up against Graazt in an upcoming adventure for rescuing Waukeen. I was curious if anyone had any idea of what sort of revenge scheme the old Demon Prince might use upon them.
I want it to be devilish and evil but not insurmountable. The Princes and Archdevils in my game are powerful but not anywhere near approaching the genius or evil of the gods in my games FYI.

Posted - 12 Jan 2007 : 11:31:21 Grazz't is a manipulator and I would use him like that. I don't know anything about the background of your characters, but I would use the stuff from their backgrounds. Let Grazz't sent a succubus or incubus or another trickster demon to seduce a beloved family-member or friend of the players. An example can be: the boyfriend of one of the players sisters died a horrible death. The girl is heartbroken and misses her boyfriend. Then on a night she is visited by an entity in the form of her lost lover who claimed to be her lover. The girl is shocked, but her love for the boy is stronger sho she doesn't ask questions about how he lives again. (She kept the secret about the return of her boyfriend for herself and the man comes only at night between 12 and 1 o' clock or something like that.
The girl becomes obsessed with the entity (which she takes as her former lover) and does everything for him. So her alignment is slowly shifting to chaotic evil and she is becoming insane (not like renfield in dracula, a more hidden , more dangerous form). What would the party do when the find out that the lovely sister became an instrument of evil. Can they redeem her? Do they kill her? And what with her soul??? Can the brother (adventurer) live with the knowledge that his sister suffers eternal damnation in the abbyss when she is death? or does he try to find a way to save the girl's soul from eternal damnation? |

Posted - 07 Jan 2007 : 22:01:26 great idea!
Rescuing Waukeen from the Abyss was my second last adventure, and I was also beginning to think, what Grazz't might do the the party.
I think, I will let some time pass, because as said before, Grazz't is immortal and thus thinks immortal. What do a few years matter to him... |

But what about a fake treasure map leading to an unknown portal, leading to his layer.
See, I just can't say I like that idea. Why would he want to put the PC's anywhere near him? Though he does control three layers in the Abyss, so he could deposit them on his "prison layer" or an extremely remote area of one of his layers (they're pretty big *g*).
I think it'd be a ton easier to send through an agent or three and have them turn folks against the PC's, for promises of power, for wealth, by distorting the folks perceptions of the PC's, etc etc. Don't just hit them from one side, hit them everywhere, get them turned around, frame someone else and hope the PC's go after them, once the PC's do go after them then blindside the PC's after they narrowly defeat the framed party. :)
If anyone is a plots within plots within plots within plots type it'd be the Demon Princes, Archdevils, unique outsiders of ANY sort.
Make it conveluded, try getting the PCs to kill a priest of some random god who's been mind controlled then had an illusion put on them. Send the priest at the PC's with a group of monsters so the PC's don't even think about it being an illusion until too late.
Get devious, because that's what Demon Lords do :) |

Posted - 06 Jan 2007 : 19:18:46 Keep in mind that Graazt has many plots and scams going, and the moduel say that this little scam with Waukeen was a small one, and he didn’t bother to do anything about it.
But what about a fake treasure map leading to an unknown portal, leading to his layer.

Posted - 06 Jan 2007 : 17:52:12 I'd have him use his minions to hit the pc's below the belt (family, other innocents near the pc's, but making sure that he's not doing anything that will really piss off a lot of other people) maybe try to ruin a lot of their investments, etc.
And I'd make the PC's go to him. I definitely wouldn't have him leave home, I'd have him sending out glabrezu, mariliths and balors (and succubus, nothing worse than succubus trying to ruin your life, quite a few important men can get real mad at you when a succubus is around)
I think that a really important thing to keep in mind here is that Graazt is immortal. Yes he wants revenge and yes he wants it as fast as possible but he is one of the most important beings in one of the most important places in the cosmos.
I'd also use whatever females I can against them. Look at it this way, Graazt has seen some REALLY powerful beings fall under the PC's swords, he knows it's not a good idea to attack them directly, so it might just work that if a bunch of children, or grandmothers, or grandfathers were to attack the PC's then they might fall to them because they don't want to hurt them. You could also hide a few polymorphing monsters/evil outsiders (I might go for straight up monsters as evil outsiders are very detectable) in amongst the innocents and initiate the battle with 30 innocent people standing around charmed (or in thrall or whatever)
And while all that is happening, Graazt could be making contacts with any magic users in the area, offering them power for service (in a myriad of different forms *g*) Suddenly, the pc's are faces with angry families ("Sorry your pop died kid but there was a demon hiding behind him."), a growing conspiracy between anyone in power, etc etc.
And when things look the bleakest you could have the PC's get aided by minions of Demogorgon or Orcus or whatever (and after that have some angels show up, followed by some powers from FR who don't want a ton of outsiders hangin around, etc etc)
. . . wow, I'm gonna stop rambling now :) |
