Hi folks!

Unfortunatelly my time on these boards has been very limited the last weeks and it will contine to be so for a while. However, as I am reading the Last Mythal series I get more and more intrigued to get more infos on the star evles.

So, what do we know about this race so far? What sources give details? When have they appeared the first time in game sources? Are they part of Ed's FR as well? And on and on and on.....

Whatever you can come up with, as long as it's about the Star Elves - bring it on. Thabnks in advance.

Sweet water and light laughter until we meet again...

Thanks so far - as always very impressive what you guys remember.

Any idea as to in which year Ed commented on the star elves?

First off, from WAY back we know that that half-elves of the Yuirwood used to worship a more primal pantheon of deities that was eventually subsumed into the Seldarine more or less, but the wood elves of the Yuirwood are essentially half wood elves . . . so how they tie into the Star elves are unknown.

We know that WAY back in history that the other elven subraces knew of the Star Elves before the Sidleyuir was shifted into its own plane. They also had their own High Mages. (The Last Mythal books)

We know that Star Elves are not a religeous as other elves, that they revere song magic, and as such have a high respect for bards and a propensity for sonic magic. (Unapproachable East, The Twilight Tomb)

We know that when they created the Sidleyuir, the Star Elves caught the attention of etherial aberrations known as the Nilshai, which have been eating away at the edge of the Sidleyuir, to the point to where the "edges" of the plane have been lost to the elves and towers and the like that used to exist have been lost "beyond." (Unapproachable East, The Last Mythal novels)

We know that the Star Elves break off portions of the Sidleyuir to serve as prison planes. (The Twilight Tomb, Darvision)

Star Elves build many structures out of glass and crystal, as well as using crystal constructs from time to time (The Twilight Tomb).

Star Elves have several legendary figures in their history. Mourel Duskwalker was an evil Star Elf that marshalled an army of evil against his own people and was defeated, and "the Duskwalker" is a "boogeyman" legend among the Star Elves and the half elves of the Yuirwood (The Twilight Tomb).

Ancient Star Elves boiled the flesh off the bones of thier dead and wrapped them with thin mithril chains before interring them in Ossuaries. This practice is less common and has fallen out of favor in modern times. (The Twilight Tomb)

Gamogan and Teraff are two more legendary Star Elves that are often cited as moral examples to the Star Elves. Gamogan was a Star elf that councelled working with their neighbors, and was a good person, but is reviled by the Star Elves because others took advantage of his spirit of commeradere and struck at the Star Elves using his good will. Teraff was a radical Star Elf raider that actively and in a manner somewhat paranoid attack those she thought were spying on the Star Elves, and the Star Elves initially saw her as a radical, but after she was captured and tourtured by humans, she was see as a martyr and is now seen as a saintly figure by the Star Elves. (The Twilight Tomb)

The Star Elves have a legendary prison, Starsdeep, and Star Elven warriors are assigned there as wardens at times. (Darkvision)

Just to expand a little on Kuje's reply...

Elaine Cunningham featured Sharlarra in her novel Windwalker -- though we didn't have an appropriate reference source at the time to determine what Sharlarra was when Windwalker was published bcause Unapproachable East had not been released yet. She explains -

"First, I'm a little puzzled by the comments that star elves were "finally" recognized in a novel, as this subrace was introduced in a fairly recent game product. Second, I did not openly state that Sharlarra was a star elf because this game product had not yet been released when I was writing Windwalker. I obtained a copy of the manuscript from WotC and read it for continuity, and also for ways to tie the novel more closely with the new lore. Because of the timing, I was trying to avoid NDA restrictions, not to mention territorial issues--I don't imagine game designers would be pleased to see their new creations unveiled elsewhere. A small matter of professional courtesy.

But I had no doubt that Sharlarra would be recognized for what she is. I've fielded quite a few questions about her race, some on the WotC message boards and some in email, and quite a few people made the connection without any trouble."

And the star elves realm -- Sildeyüir -- is detailed in UE as well. The module Kuje refers to is The Twilight Tomb. Ed also fielded some details about the star elves here at Candlekeep.

They weren't introduced until Unapproachable East. Elaine used one in her last Liriel novel, but the novel doesn't flat out state that it's a star elf, you have to read between the lines.

Otherwise, they also have the module that came out for them besides the 3e sourcebook.
