Posted - 04 Mar 2007 : 20:49:51 I'm playing a dwarf at the moment in one campaign, who intends to become a stonelord (Complete Warrior), and as such has a number of ranks in Craft:Stoneworking
Trouble is I can't think of anything useful (in game terms) that could be made out of stone. I even have no idea about costs of things like crafting a stone block for building a house, or carving a statuette.
Any help or suggestions over items and prices etc that could be crafted out of stone would be of great help to me in adding more depth to the character.
Thanks |

Also: see your DM's jaw drop when you are announcing that you have placed a bid to the local lord for the construction of the upcoming City Walls, with a standing retainer's fee for ongoing maintenance and exclusivity rights should his Lordship elects to build his own keep within the next 10 years.
More mundane projects can include brick chimneys, brick/stone facades, expensive marble floors inside manors/mansions; more exotic projects can include that dreaded GIANT STONE BALL trap that is set to roll out when triggered by intruders, pressure-plates and other counterweight systems used in traps or to aid opening gigantic doors, or collapsing floors/stairs/ceilings used in traps or in defensive structures, etc. |

Posted - 04 Mar 2007 : 21:14:07 Stoneworking involves caving tunnels, stone construction, stone art and should include stone weapons (tools).
Things like bridges can be very important for a comunuity, and aquaduct also can be projects that are large but needed. Stone tools/weapons indeed could become important in a metal poor region. Stear points, arrow heads, flint knives, morter and pestle, etc. they can be many tools made of stone. Flagstone and fireplace stone also would fall under the craft set, I would set a low DC for such common items (perhaps 5 to 7) fairly easy if one learns the craft, but not something anyone can do.
As for pricing, that is always a bit of a problem. There is no scale of ecomomy in the game, IOW the prices do not make sense.
A stone statuette should have a price along the lines of a minor art item, average 55 gp (Dc to craft, perhaps 12) |
