Posted - 25 May 2007 : 13:24:55 I am wondering about the rules about templates.
If a Selune Silverstar becomes a Werebear after reaching 6th level Priest and 6th level Moonstar, he gains the special ability of becoming a natural lycantrophe (if he is infected with lycantrophy)
It seems to be a logical step, that a priest of this level and this ability would seek to become infested with lycantrophy!
I am wondering about the rules of doing so. Is it true, that the werebear template means, that the priest would have to accept an level adjustment and if so, how high would it be?
thx for your help |

Posted - 27 May 2007 : 11:01:28 right ... i think it is at 5'th or 6'th level Silverstars aren't prone to Alignment changes due to Lycanthropy anymore |

Werebear mainly, because they are good, and I doubt, that Selune would be happy to have a Silverstar turn into an evil Lycantrophe
If I remember correctly, Silverstars infected by lycanthropy don't have to worry about the infection causing alignment changes. So, if I'm right, that means a Silverstar that becomes a werewolf would remain good. |

I think that really makes most sense! Else the werebear would advance through a single bite 6 Levels and hence be by far the most powerful character in the party

... werepenguin.. What an fabulous idea! Extremely well adept in arktic cold and has quite an enormous bonus for swimming and fishing! I'll suggest that one to the priest! |

Posted - 25 May 2007 : 17:34:42 Sean K Reynolds wrote an excellent sourcebook for werecritters called Curse of the Moon. It's a $5 pdf, and it has a lot of nifty ideas for weres... SKR states that the whole lycanthrope template is broken, and presents several ways to deal with it. |

Posted - 25 May 2007 : 15:04:10 Don't forget that the Racial Hit Dice count against the natural lycanthrope as well. So, yes it's a boon, but also a LA problem because with hit dice the ECL for a were-brown bear is something like +9 with their 6hd, and add that to the class levels and you're epic pretty quick. Now, if your DM ruled that the Silverstar levels counted as the bear Hit Dice, you'd only have to deal with the +3 LA.
Dragon had an article in #313 showing the racial classes for were-creatures. I'd recommend reading that before you jumped right in for the werebear template.
I hope I helped. /d
Edit: Kes beat me to the 6hd, thanks for the confirmation. |

Posted - 25 May 2007 : 15:00:41 The racial hit dice of the bear has to be taken into account as well. Which means a werebear has a +9 to ECL (+3 LA and 6d8 racial die). ~Kes |

As far as getting infected, just find one get bit and vouluntary fail save. |
