Was this one of the Ravenloft "Choose Your Own Adventures?"

The Super Endless Quest books were like the Endless Quest books (themselves a variation on the Choose Your Own Adventure books), but the Super Endless Quest books did require some die rolling -- so that would be the closest to the Fighting Fantasy gamebooks.

There's also Knight of the Living Dead. I've got two copies of that book; I need to read one of them, sometime.

I guess there is really nothing like Fighting Fantasy when it comes to what you are looking for.
