Posted - 21 Sep 2010 : 07:29:47 I had not heard of this race in Faerun before. Is it new, or are there details of them in prior editions or supplements?
The Dracohar - in Dungeon #182 http://www.wizards.com/dnd/article.aspx?x=dnd/dufe/20100913
quote: "Never numerous and always seeking to hide their natures from humans and others, the race of dracohar are reclusive for a reason: their normal, human bodies are topped with the head of a red dragon. They are a real-life example of that recurring terror of legend, a runaway 'new breed' that began as the result of a wizard’s failed attempt to breed servitor dragons. Besides their alarming appearance, they have another reason to avoid civilization: their blood is a valued commodity among alchemists and fashioners of magical items."

Posted - 21 Sep 2010 : 14:58:53 Thanks for the replies. These don't seem to be the original dragonborn of the Realms, Bahamut's faithful (their bodies were fully dragon-ish but humanoid shaped I think), or new in the sense of being from transposed Abeir. Then again, I don't remember hearing about "Kelkur’s vale" so maybe that is somewhere in the newer Abeir-parts post-Spellplague? I'm thinking they must be a new creation, unless there are some vague hints in prior editions. |

Posted - 21 Sep 2010 : 14:28:17 Its a very 'Ed' version of a Dragonborn/Draconian.
Weather new or old, it is how he would have introduced such a race into the Forgotten Realms, IMHO.
For those of us running older-edition versions of the setting, it is a neat way to bring Dragonborn/Draconians/Dragonewts/Dragon-blooded into our games.
The fact that they have human bodies smacks of a good 'chaos' campaign.
As for the background, sounds like a Realms version of Valley Elves (GH). |

Posted - 21 Sep 2010 : 08:35:05 I would be willing to say that simply because something is just coming to light, doesn't mean it isn't old...just as Sage said.
However, conversely I can see that perhaps Ed does create new things for the new Realms...ideas springing forth fresh from the fountain of his creativity. |

Posted - 21 Sep 2010 : 08:11:54 It's not immediately ringing any lore-bells for me. So I'd assume it's probably "new" for the official Realms, but has been a long-time fixture of Ed's home Realms campaigns... perhaps. |
