Posted - 18 Dec 2003 : 18:35:25 I can't believe, the players of my group are fanatics to Warcraft, but they don't want to buy "world of warcraft RPG", they want to play with this carachters in the realms. Yesterday, I was hearing, DM asks :"Please, tell me your hystory..." a player answer: "What? I mustn't to have a history, I'm that Paladin of Warcraft". I like warcraft, but I think it makes the players not think about carachters, they make copies of Warcraft Heros. What Do you think about it? |

Posted - 28 Dec 2003 : 21:13:42 It's okay now, because when I playing, I said to they things about experience penalty if they make copies of warcraft carachters and they create good histories, Uther was a paladin of thyr, the elf wizard (I don't remenber his name) was a wizard of waterdeep, and the night elf half stag hero was a centaur druid... But will use the world of warcraft in my caimpaigns after I buy the its rule book. |

Posted - 19 Dec 2003 : 14:00:47 I like the idea of playing war craft like heros and things in the realms. However, I do NOT like people playing the role of a char already made ON THE GAME. Make your own damn chars and play things right. Humph. |

I don't really like the idea of anyone copying anything, since it is, in fact, an exercise in imagination. If I were DMing, though, I'd allow it . . . but make it very clear to this guy that he'd better give me a convincing background. He'd have to show me how he isn't doing this to save time; if he doesn't want a background, then I wouldn't let him play without one. Or not without an XP penalty. If he's not putting in the same amount of effort as the rest, he shouldn't get any breaks. |

Posted - 18 Dec 2003 : 19:34:25 Character's from Warcraft or not (whether they're just a copy of a class from Warcraft OR by some Mystikal and Magikal means from Warcraft itself) Must have a history. All beings have a history, who they are, where they come from. they Can't just simply 'BE' (even the deities have their own background). This wouldn't be that hard since After the Fall of the Dark Portal on Draenor, the Orc's homeworld (that had WAY TOO MANY portals to the twisting Nether open up) was destroyed, more or less, If you Follow the Warcraft Mythology, then Ner'Zhul, now the Lich King had led his forces into the Nether to Escape destruction. the Human Forces that went to Draenor to Destroy the Dark Portal from that end, never returned to the Realms of Azeroth. Our Little Backgroundless Paladin, could be one of the Paladins who were trapped on Draenor as it collapsed in on itself and was eventually pulled into the twisting Nether (were some of the Armies continue to Fight). Note: For those unaware, think of the twisting Nether as an Abyssal/Negative version of the Astral Plane. There are more or less, places where settlement's can be built such as the pieces that remain of Draenor floating in an endless sea of nothingness.
I ramble but This Person MUST have a Background. Incorrect class or not it would Flesh out the being more, thus allowing him to make references to Great battles he was in, an almost obsessive hatered of Orcs, and an intense dislike of Arcane Magick (which would be the reason why he was marooned on Toril). All arcane magick, while not drawn from Demonic powers does tend to corrupt the user and Draws Demons to the Wielder like Flies to Carron. These previous prejudices, while at first might seem harmful, could have intresting effects, since it would take one time to adjust to such surrounding. Makes for intresting roleplay. The Player seems to just be lazy on his part. |
