As for the Dragonlance mentions...well, I can agree with you on that, as I have mentioned it perhaps more than I should...Maybe I've just been spending too much time in the Ethereal...

Well met

You're a Master of Realmslore, my dear Sage........certain privileges are granted, thus

Well met

Hmmmmm, "Planescape" eh? Ill let it pass, Edain Shadowstar. There have been a number of locales I havent recognised lately crop up in various scrolls... The Sage often rants on about some "Dragonlance" place..... between you and me, I think he's quite delusional

What is their relationship to the planes?
In a nutshell, the place you are most likely to find tieflings is on the Planes; in fact they are one of the more populous races on the Planes, they, humans, and other planetouched (aasimar and gensi) make up a large portion of the population of the Outer Planes, namely like the Outlands and Sigil (see, there I go). On the Prime, like Toril, they are decidedly rare. This is because beings like the fiends are uncommon visitors to the Prime, and therefore unlikely to procreate there. On Planes, however, you can walk into a tavern and share a round with a bunch of tanar'ri, a centaur, and a dragon, and that's just called Monday. As such, most tieflings are Planar born and bred, and many you encounter on the Prime are likely just traveler from the Planes. Largely it has to with the way tieflings are recieved on the Prime. While not beloved on the Planes, they are at least not reviled (unless they earned it), and can at least be at home. On the Prime they are often hunted, persecuted, and killed just because of their heritage. This is why, as I said before, they are most heavily detailed in Planescape products.

I kinda like Fey'ri, they have alterself ability. So they can walk among simple folk without a trace. And they are half elven.
If I recall right, their ancestors were a member of an elven house fighting with the others and sought help from demons. Hellgate was about that events but my files are lost in a computer accident, I cannot give further info.

The Daemonfey/Fey'ri from House Dlardrageth came about via secret breeding with tanari'ri and other feel creatures. The House sought to strenghten their family and race in the aftermath of the Crown Wars. (Source: Cloak and Dagger, page 90).

Additionally, House Dlardrageth will be the villians in Richard Baker's upcoming novel trilogy.

Alright, some Q&A real quick and maybe a little more information:

Tieflings are the result of interbreeding between humans and fiends, either baatezu, tanar'ri, or yugoloth (though I imagine yugoloths do not interbreed as much as ther baatezu or tanar'ri). They are not strict half-human, half-fiends, but rather part human and part fiends, meaning somewhere in their line, like their grandsires, interbred with fiends. If they were strictly half-fiends they would be far more potent then they already are. Also, to recap they are part (or rather mostly) human, though I have a firm belief other races should be able to be tieflings, or like them at least. But that's just me. Here's a snipit from The Planewalker's Handbook section on tieflings, which gives a bit of decription about their heritage:

quote:
Originally from The Planewalker's Handbook:

Obviously human and "something-else" crossbreeds, the "something-else" in the tieflings' case is usually assumed to be lower-planar. The stigma follows all tieflings through thier lives. Loners by nature, they make their own paths out of mecessity; no tiefling culture exists to aid the outcasts, since no two tieflings are alike.
Hopes that clarifies your earlier question. If any more questions arise ask, otherwise I'll see what else I can get.

Eh, I have info, but my schedule is so booked, I'm afraid I can't get it to you for a while. Sorry Ezindir, my friend.
Edain Shadowstar Posted - 29 Jan 2004 : 18:46:07
Alright, for the sake of clarity I'll start with the Forgotten Realms sources and then if you want some fluffy bits I'll dig elsewhere. First, I give the Forgotten Realms tiefling:

quote:
Originally from the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting:

Because they are descended from evil outsiders, those who know of their ancestry immediately consider most tieflings evil and untrustworthy. Not all tieflings are evil or untrustworthy, but enough are that the prejudice tends to cling. Some tieflings have a minor physical trait suggesting their heritage, such as pointed teeth, red eyes, small horns, the odor of brimstone, cloven feet, or just an unnatural aura of wrongness. Those descended from an infernal minion of a Faerunian deity often carry a birthmark of the deity’s holy symbol or another trait related to that evil faith.
This is the basic description given for tieflings in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting and is about as close as you will get to in depth description of the tiefling in the Realms. The reason is, though they appear int he Realms pretty far back, they were detailed elsewhere, like in the Monster Manual or a Planescape product. In the Realms the largest pocket of tieflings was Hellgate Keep, before it fell and was sealed. Now most of the former occupants of Hellgate Keep are displaced into the Underdark, so tieflings, who while not unheard of there, are more common near Ched Nasad (also fallen) and Menzoberranzan these days. After a bit of a search I did find one tiefling of power in the Realms, and he's a big one at that. I give you Shangalar the Black, one of the elusive and enigmatic Runemasters of the Twisted Rune, a level 27 wizard and a lich in Second Edition. Other than that most of what you will find on tieflings in the Realms is spatterings of random encouters and a few who turn up in the Skullport book.
Ezindir the dark Posted - 29 Jan 2004 : 17:43:10
Yes I did.
I am not good at remembering how races and such are spelled, and I tought about thiefs, and that would have been great if you could.
Edain Shadowstar Posted - 29 Jan 2004 : 17:39:31
To clarify, do you mean Tieflings? If so, do just want things from official Forgotten Realms sources, or can I branch out into other products? (i.e. Planescape has lots of fluffy bits about Tieflings.)
