Posted - 07 Feb 2004 : 03:43:24 All magical items have a cost to craft. I assume that this cost is for various rare and/or expensive ingredients used in its construction. Does anyone know what such materiels might be used, and for what types of items? Also, what is involved in the crafting of such items? Specific spells or rituals, perhaps, or divine intervention?(in the case of a divine spellcaster, of course) Any informtion that you have is welcome. |

Posted - 19 Feb 2004 : 00:37:47 Yes, it all depends on what the DM wants it to be made of. I personally, use things that the players will have to embark on a long and arduous quest to achieve. (But thats just me. )

It's left to the player to fill in during roleplay, or for the DM to require (such as a quest to find certain wood pieces or Red Elvish Cloth or something. |

Posted - 14 Feb 2004 : 03:36:23 I agree with you there Sourcemaster2. It seems that magical items require something rare or require magical expenditure of a wizard/mage for construction, in essence something irreplaceable or something that cannot be replaced easily. That's probably why magical items cost so much. |

Posted - 09 Feb 2004 : 15:17:31 The 2nd Edition system (and spells) Ed put into VOLO'S GUIDE TO ALL THINGS MAGICAL is deliberately long, complicated, and Byzantine. It's also PERFECT for use in a campaign where players are ROLEPLAYING spellcasters, especially one-on-one with a DM. Crafting magic items becomes an adventuring process. Try it for a few months (as I did, with Ed as my DM), and you'll find that in the right hands (well, I had Ed :}) it's great. |

Posted - 09 Feb 2004 : 04:02:25 That sort of stuff is left open to the players. You just fill in whatever ceremonies and materials you feel are necesary. |

Posted - 08 Feb 2004 : 20:57:16 Volo's Guide to All Things Magical talks about magic item creation in detail, in the context of second edition AD&D. Even if you use the easier, more mechanized 3E system, you can still draw on that book for details. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/files/2/fr_downloads/tsr9535.zip |

Posted - 08 Feb 2004 : 19:57:46 From what I know would there be some sort of a scroll or magic involved, but dont think you have too be a arcane spellcaster, but mages can cast encantments on weapons. Some items is already magical I think, like dragon schell. And some people put a part of them self in a weapon to. |
