Posted - 13 Feb 2004 : 11:48:43 In the following discussion, I am assuming that you have read through the Epic Level Handbook, or have easy access to the tome to discuss some of these points -
- Flux Slime--Juiblex' new pet project or seepage from the Soup? - So where does the Gibbering Orb go on the Beholder Tree of Life? Early brood of the Great Mother? A Monstrosity spawned off farther down the line (meaning Gibbering Mouther's would also be relatively recent developments)? Some horrible magic experiment of an Epic Wizard? I'm inclined to go with the first, not only because the Orb seems much closer to the bizarre behavior of the Great Mother, but because I like the idea of Gibbering Mouthers being an ancient race and that perhaps--for reasons and in ways we humanoids cannot hope to comprehend--the Great Mother "loves" them and the Orbs better than all the rest. - Why do I get the feeling the Brachyurus is going to become every Epic Druid's favorite companion and every NPC Humanoids mount of choice? - The Infernals--where would they stack up in the Blood War? And how numerous? If there are only a handful spread out in different locales of the Lower Planes they would simply be headaches--but five or six of them gathered in a layer of the Hells (especially if they had someone like Sekolah or Set for a parent) could be a major cause for a Prince's alarm. Would Chaotic and Lawful Evil Infernals be able to coordinate efforts or be as repulsed by each other as Tanar'ri and Baatezu? - Hunefers make me think of some upstart New Demigod who unwisely tried to crowd a Greater Deity's area of control (perhaps Set?) and were destroyed almost entirely, the Hunefers becoming the generals among a legion of mummies. - The Regulators--to what extent if any have they infiltrated the various power-groups of the Realms, particularly the more extreme and aggressive ones? Among the Regulator 33, what kind of member would be easiest to turn into double agents? - Ilkkool Rrem--mentioned as the greatest planar metropolis of the Illithids, buried deep inside a material world, connected to 100s of Planes, with "Thousands of races other than mind flayers," all in thrall to them. It seems like one of the few vestiges of the Illithid Empire untouched by the great uprising, and probably filled with every form of Illithid imaginable. Could there be a gateway to the the Far Realm here? Breeding experiments to form a warrior race to aid the Illithids in schemes to reconquer their old Empire?

Yes Cyric, all these details come from the ELH.
As for Brachyurus and the Infernals...I'll get back to you on that as I don't have my tome with me at the moment...

I'm for Jubilex's pet project, considering as I only have a vague recollection of what the Soup is...

The fact that it seems much more primordial than the average beholder is a good reason for the first, also. It treats them as a sort of greater race, one more likely to be entangled in ancient, far-reaching plots, where the passing of a century is but a blip...or at least until the PCs come along. That's what I tend to do with epic characters, anyway; get them involved in ancient designs.

Well, what other options do they have? A dragon? Either that, or something that will snap the rider's head off in an instant. Epic characters need epic toys, even epic mounts.

Considering the Princes and Lords seem to fear them, I'd be inclined to say that they don't have any effect on the Great War. I'd put their number at around 30, perhaps? They might be gathered in some places, but those places are likely far and far apart. I'd say that the Chaotic and Lawful ones are separate groups.

The gateway seems like a nice touch. I'd go for an alliance with darker powers(such as the uvuudaum) instead of the warrior race, though. |
