Posted - 08 May 2020 : 17:30:12 Back in the 2e days I never carved out a space in Fareun to build anything significant. I was too busy raiding TSR modules trying to find content for my weekly 10+ hour sessions...
But this time around I would like to find a spot suitable for the base of operations. Given the map https://media.wizards.com/2015/images/dnd/resources/Sword-Coast-Map_HighRes.jpg
where would you think a nice spot would be given the following criteria
1) Not a place that has been fleshed out in modules and books before, I don't want to clash with existing lore
2) Ideally it would be near a forest and some mountains, perhaps a decent lake.
3) Remote enough that you could ultimately have a legendary monster without it seeming absurd.
thanks!

I don't know, I can't find it ! Man we need to a longitude/latitude system. Do you have a nearby city name on this map (those are searchable) https://loremaps.azurewebsites.net/Maps/Faerun
Oh I see it now, damn Faerun is bigger than I thought it was |

Posted - 09 May 2020 : 00:37:41 For my gaming group of demi-humans, we pretty much own the seedy-side of Everlund. Large city, but not full of ultra powerful NPC's that make it weird. Well, except for us, lol. Our rogues guild ARE the most powerful individuals in Everlund. Plus... It's right down the road from Silverymoon.
That's my corner of Faerun. |

Except that they put it under "map of faerun"
https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/map-faer%C3%BCn
and its the only map on their website.

Pick a place at random and go on a deep research dive! If you want something novel, pick a place with some kind of natural resource to serve as a backdrop for growth. @Patt
Thats a nice map, so much bigger, why is the wizards one cut off !!!!! https://media.wizards.com/2015/images/dnd/resources/Sword-Coast-Map_HighRes.jpg
Does that map cover the borderlands? I haven't read that supplement so not sure where it is.

Starmantle. You are near the Lake of the Long Arm, the Sea of Falling Stars, and Gulthmere Forest. Plus, if you want to take a break and go somewhere very well fleshed out, you have Cormyr not too far away.
Nice, Cormyr is where we started my original campaign so that sounds really good. Man I wish I had all my DM stuff from back then lol. |
