Posted - 17 May 2025 : 00:44:34 I'm also looking at this book on Drivethru. Can I get this, the 2e book, and Volo's Guide? How does this book compare with the other two? Should I get all three?
I'm not setting my present Realms campaign in Waterdeep, although I might run a campaign in Waterdeep in the future. Not expecting Eric to chime in, although I'd like to get opinions from other scribes who have all three books on Waterdeep. I just had a thought, Undermountain is set in Waterdeep.
But I wonder how other people who set their campaigns in Waterdeep think about this fantasy city. Oh, can I still make it my own once I set a campaign there? |

As for Volo's Guide to Waterdeep, it is one of my fave Realms sources, period. It's the one that flipped me from being a casual enthusiast to a Realms junkie. It gives an on-the-ground feel of the city that no other sourcebook matches.
So I take that as a recommended book instead of passing on it. Okay. It must be really good if it turned you into a dedicated Forgotten Realms fan, Wooly. |

Posted - 17 May 2025 : 16:11:38 The 3E Waterdeep book purposefully tries to cover some things not previously covered in the 2E box set, while still being a general Waterdeep book. I think the combo of the box set (which summarizes Volo's) and the 3E book give you everything you need. |
