Dear Mr. Greenwood,

I am writing this open letter as I was told that this was the place most likely for you to read it.

I just want to take a moment and thank you for your decades of hard work creating and maintaining the forgotten realms.

I was 12 years old in 1988 when I found your greybox set on the shelf of a tiny hobby store near where I lived. I was just a quiet kid with a rough home life. I had some familiarity with D&D when my aunt gave me the starting D&D redbox set a few years earlier and mostly played solo adventures by myself using random generation tables.

When I found your boxed set and opened it for the first time, my world changed. I was an instant fan of the realms and started eating novels and sourcebooks wherever I could find them. Then the old SSI video games, etc. Your realms has never been far away and was where I could escape when life became too difficult.

A little over a year ago I was cleaning out some old items and came across all that ancient stuff in a box and started playing again regularly with some of my oldest friends. Old school 2e. We meet ruglarly online now and I am still everyone's favorite DM. We are digital now but all those relics are now on my shelf where they belong.

I am 49 now and the realms are still a big part of my life. Whether it was Tabletop, or video games or just reading novels.. Your world has shaped my childhood/teen years and now shapes my middle age.

Thank you Ed, for bringing me into your world.

PT
