Apologies for my disappearance, folks. Been EXTREMELY busy at Dwarf HQ here, especially with vast improvements at home and (above all else) the American Thanksgiving coming up. That led me to question: Are there any special feasts akin to Thanksgiving in Faerūn? If so, where and when is such celebrated? I was questioning if either Highharvestide or Feast of the Moon would count. If not, maybe set one during Marpenoth that would fit the bill?

Did the Realms have any pants-on-the-head theocracy that collapsed, to begin with?

Well, obviously Italy has some... how did you put it... ah, Pilgrims for a long while now, just did not abandon the... ah, Pilgrim folly yet, so no occasion to celebrate. They tried back in early XX century, but this was done about halfway, and even before it failed, the whole thing was more of embarrassment than relief.
I wish the Italians better luck the next time, and to have enough of nice poultry for celebration when it happens.
They probably are not going to have someone as able and willing to provide a honest plain insider summary as William Bradford (or Ralph Hamor), but who cares?
Of course, there would still be a closet full of skeletons back from Risorgimento (and obvious implications thereof) to sort out, but at least they will be in a decent position to start.

This is why I follow The Dancing Lady, for every night can be the giving of many many thanks.

Some sort of harvest festival would be closest, I should think.

I once had a coworker from Italy comment that she loved Thanksgiving, because she'd never celebrated it before coming to the US. Another guy (stupidly) asked her, "What, you don't have Thanksgiving in Italy?" She was much kinder than I would have been when she pointed out the lack of Pilgrims and natives helping them.

I share this tale because unless I'm mistaken, the Realms is also lacking such a thing.
