Dragons of Autumn Twilight is going to be made into an animated movie, with Lucy Lawless voicing Goldmoon. For the articles about this:

We'll see how it turns out. 100 minutes of film time might not be enough for the story though. Regarding the flick I have the "lean-back-and-wait"-attitude. Not overly excited atm. For the film to be successful the novel isn't 'mainstream' enough to get audiences to watch it, especially if they got a high-explosive, no-brain, action competition... |

I don't know, even after checking IMDB, who most of those people are... Interesting choice for Raistlin, though. I would've picked Alan Rickman, but maybe he's afraid of getting typecast as an evil mage. 
Alan Rickman is a good choice, though I feel he may sound too sly, even for Raistlin. Plus, you need the occasional coughing fit and raspy voice, and I think the current choice can convey that more accurately than Rickman for the most part.

I am a little more worried about the drawing style. I understand they are going to use the same style as the recent comic and I did not like the characters as presented there. |

Animated is a good way to go. You don't quite need the money of LotR or Narnia (well, according to Disney, maybe you do) to achieve similar effects and scales, provided the animation is high quality and executed in the spirit of the source. With Hickman and Weis getting script and art approval, this could be great. Hopefully the first one does well enough for them to order two back to back sequels.
One worrying though has crossed my mind, I can't recall the last animated movie of this type. All the animated movies that have gotten decent releases were geared towards kids (G or PG rating), though this is meant more for adults (guessing PG-13).

Lord of the Rings was a cartoon a long time ago, so don't give up hope. I wonder what the actual length of the film will be, both authors did have a hand in the screenplay so maybe at least a feature film with a runtime of 120 minutes.
Not to mention that as a cartoon, any comparisons to Lord of the Rings might just be favourable (Though personally I think the Frank Bakshi-movie has a worse reputation than it deserves, but that's just my opinion, of course.) |

Hello-
A friend of mine emailed the link to me - what - seems like a couple of weeks ago at this point.
I am also interested to see what this has to offer.
I think the decision to go animated is a good one, especially if they are thinking of going trilogy. If it had been live-action - then I think there would have beena TON of comparisons to the LotR movies - which will likely still happen - but being animated - it will not have the same impact that another live-action would.
My only other concern is that I don't know what 'style' the animation will take. I truly would be disappointed at an anime-style rendition. I did not recignize the company that was working on it, so I have no idea really.
I may be going out on a limb here - but the choice of the story (Dragonlance) may be a no-brainer in some regards. Its possible that it may be the second-most recignizable fantasy 'series' [referring to the original trilogy only] out there - behind LotR. That kind of mass-appeal and mass-awareness will no doubt bring people in to check it out.

I'm happy to see someone is doing the DL story, I wonder if that new comic line had anything to do with renewed interest in DL?
I'm only disappointed that with a cartoon there is (in my opinion) less of a chance that there will be a live action, full-length movie (a la Lord of the Rings) I have always thought the DL chronicles would make an awesome movie

It will be a combination of 2D and 3D I belive. Ghost in the Shell II
is a great example of such a combination.

I found out about this last week, this must be the first movie for ages that I actually look forward to seeing.
I seem to remember reading something about the rest of the trilogy being made if the first one were well received. |

Aye, i'll let it pass, Wooly I'm actually quite looking forward to seeing how this turns out. If there ever was a tale to be told for a D&D world on the big screen, then i'd say this would be it. Dragonlance Chronicles is quite well known and is a thoroughly enjoyable tale.

This is great news indeed.
I found out about this last week at DL.com (and I recommend any DL fans to take a quick look over the discussions about the movie itself that are taking place on the forums over there).
I'm ecstatic about this development. And not only because it potentially allows for the possibility that something similar might develop for the Forgotten Realms, but also, like most long-time DL-fans, we're finally getting some *type* of feature-length DL film.
