Tis truly a shame, I enjoyed Gemmell's grim gritty style. Like many of the other scribes I particularly enjoyed the Drenai series, although a particular favourite of mine was his stand alone 'Knights of Dark Renown'.

Rest in Peace David

What sad news...

I am glad, though, that I acquired some of his novels for my regional library just a week ago.

The first novel I read from him was Legend in finnish, and I was completely hooked. He was an author that I felt could bring refreshing and new elements to the fantasy genre. He had a unique style to weave together elements of low- and high-fantasy in the same novel, and I loved his style of writing, and his attention to detail.

A deep bow to a great man, who gave me (and many others, I am sure!) many hours of well-written adventures, and may many others still pick up his books in the future!

I'm never too sad when someone like this passes away. He lived a full and rich life and made many people happy through his actions. In that respect, his life is an inspiration to all.

I only ever read Druus the Legend and I was astounded by how good it was. I just never got to his other books. I'll have to now.

bah, I loved his books :-(

Have several of his books, but have never gotten around to reading them.
Did hear he is a good author though, but I was getting his books for the Luis Royo cover art.
Will need to pull out one of those books and give them a read, after checking to see if I need to get a part one or such...

One of the best. I absolutely devoured his Rigante books.
Wandering_mage Posted - 02 Aug 2006 : 13:47:20
That is rotten luck. He was a good writer.

Oh, man... I just picked up a couple of his books the other day, to replace some older "heavily used" copies.

'Tis a great shame. Another lost talent...

Well met

Indeed, I heard of this terrible news at the weekend A great asset to the fantasy fiction scene who will be greatly missed.
