Kuje, your NPC data that you have compiled has been an invaluable tool for planning for me at least. Keep up the work no matter how contradictory the sourcebooks get.

I am rarely happy with stats I see for the iconic NPCs and end up wishing I had never seen them.

Agreed, 100% on the mark friend.

Especially when they change from page to page. Yes, I'm looking at you Unapproachable East where the NPC goes from being NG to CG on the next page. Or from one sourcebook to the next, and there I'm looking at the FRCS and Lords of Darkness when a NPC goes from being a 12th level sorcerer to a 10th level rogue and dropping the sorcerer levels completely.

Blinks.

Personally, information about the Knights of Myth Drannor (their likes, dislikes, attitudes, physical description, quirks of manner or personality) is far more useful and interesting than their feat and skill selections.

I agree, in the six years that I have been running in the Realms, the only NPCs that my players have actually interacted with are Mirt, Durnan, and a Manshoon clone that had been hiding out in the Utter East, and even then stats never came into play. But for some reason, I am also interested in their stats. The best way I can explain my fascination is that it takes the characters out of the novels and puts them into the game. That being said, I am rarely happy with stats I see for the iconic NPCs and end up wishing I had never seen them.

I agree concepts are much more interesting than stats. But I think people are just fascinated as to how a character is deveolped stat/skill/feat-wise. Much like people are fascinated by baseball stats

I'll just note that the stats I put together (based on things gleaned from Ed and THO) were only basic stat lines of the (male Chondathan human LG Cleric 7 of Tyr) type, and also contained information about their personalities. It was merely for reference in my current campaign which has centred on Daggerdale and to a lesser extent, Shadowdale. I can't see myself running through a combat encounter with them, if I did, maybe I'd put something more detailed together.

I've always wondered what the fascination is with stats for NPCs that don't figure in the combat part of anyone's gaming experience. At the extreme it might be somewhat voyeuristic I suppose, with comparisons made between characters or other NPCs to prove who is more 'powerful'. Otherwise, I suppose that some people get a better feel for characters when they view them through their gaming stats. Personally, information about the Knights of Myth Drannor (their likes, dislikes, attitudes, physical description, quirks of manner or personality) is far more useful and interesting than their feat and skill selections. If the KoMD featured in my campaign and weren't involved in any combat, their stats would be totally useless to me. Their personalities on the other hand, would be essential. Loved Ed's new novel BTW - probably his best FR effort IMO.

As I've said more than once, give me the concept -- anyone can come up with numbers. The concept is the tough part, and it's the part that's interesting.

Agreed.

Which is why I've always made it clear to the players in my campaigns that, should the Knights ever feature in my Realms... they'll be strictly part of the story itself. That's because, as I see it, relying on their history and the lore concerning them, is far more useful and important for my campaign than which feats and skills they presently have access to.

The KoMD are woven into the fabric of the Realms. They always have been, as Ed has said. And that's how I want them to be in my campaigns, should I ever decide to use them.

Reefy sent me some stats for them all a while ago, I think ones he did himself. Send him a PM and bug him for them

Would be a great web enhancement to the KoMD-trilogy at the WOTC product page as they did it for Catti and Regis and some other novel characters!

Good queation. They are meant to be one of the foremost adventuring groups in Fearun... What would there 3ed levels be.
Kuje Posted - 26 Aug 2006 : 02:45:24
Heroes Lorebook as well. Ruins of Zhentil Keep box set for some of them. FR Adventures. 2e's Campaign box set. Time of Troubles Shadowdale module.

I don't immediately recall any 3e stats for them, just those from 2e sources like Hall of Heroes and Ruins of Myth Drannor.
