Heres a basic question: is the Astral similar to real space? Does the world of Toril or the Astral plane have any interraction with space in the Realms?

The Astral Planes of 3e FR Great Tree cosmology, since it has more than one [each link Toril to the outer planar homes of differing groups of deities, like the Zakharan pantheon for example], are realms of mental energy. They are silvery voids that have very little to do with real space, and everything to do with the mind. 2e's A Guide to the Astral Plane, while still a PS accessory, does provide a reasonable enough grounding for basic Astral Plane lore in the FR setting.

As for Toril's connection to "space" in the Realms -- that would be yes, and it is called Wildspace. You'll want either the Realmspace supplement (or take a look over the material at spelljammer.org) or the various SPELLJAMMER products to familiarise yourself with this fantasy space derivative in the D&D game.
