I've been stopping by this place from time to time, and always had a fun read over topics and such. Guess I just decided to go ahead and jump aboard (though a big part being that the WotC boards just turn my stomachs these days).
Not sure if there's some sort of intro needed. Been playing D&D and hanging out in the realms since the 2nd edition box set and loving it all the while (until recently, but thats another topic).
Played BG1 and 2 when they came out and thought it was great storytelling. Also was a huge fan of NWN for its possibilities and NWN2.
Books wise I started out with Exile by RAS (I know, I skipped the first when I stared, sue me) and moved through the Drizzt books from there. After I devoured all those off, I moved onto Elaine Cunningham which was equally enjoyable, both with her Arilyn AND Liriel Baenre characters (we actually named our daughter who is now 5 years old Arilynn. We added an N for ... flair I guess? Probably don't say it the same way though. Hers sounds like Air ah lin, never knew how correctly to say Arilyn's).
Read casually when I could, picking up Ghostwalker (fantastic book) and Bladesinger in the fighter's series. Also gave Bloodwalker (i think thats the name) a shot and was pleased well enough.
I am a huge fan of the anti heroes (thus the love for Ghostwalker as well as Servant of the Shard with Artemis) which probably stems from PRE D&D love to Wolverine from the X-Men series (still love the guy).
Anyway, I'm married with a beautiful gamer wife who enjoys the realms with me and just wanted to have a place to make a statement or two (or more) if the mood strikes with something I'm reading.
As for gaming we like 3e/Pathfinder (especially Pathfinder updates) over 4e (felt like options were nerfed for ease. Game might run smoother but its just not CURRENTLY what I'm looking for. Barring huge changes in direction, not likely to see this changing though).

Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!

I've noticed many great lengths of FR history among the members here. I'm only 25 myself. Only reason I fell into Forgotten Realms to start with was as a child when first introduced to D&D, someone had busted out the box to help out in DMing it. I fell in love with everything, Waterdeep foremost (spent most of the time there when we gamed). So I don't consider myself some long lived sage in the arts. After all, I was a kid and my little mind could only wrap around so much at a time.
My first RP was being 7 or 8 and using a bunch of sticks with neighbors in the woods and making up games. I guess people could call it LARP but we just called it having fun and playing out fantasy stories. Best moments of my childhood ... ever.
As for the mrs, yea. We met roleplaying online. I knew deep down I had to be with someone with that interest in common. I knew my partner would be my best friend and I wanted to share as many moments with her as I could. I found that, and I found my best friend, and I hung onto it. Married young and had our fair share of bumps in the road, but I've never been happier. 6 and a half years now and I still haven't driven her nuts yet. WOOHOO!!
(And Nightcrawler was always very cool. I loved it especially when they gave him his whole swashbuckler feel and let him duel wield those sabers of his. Good times ...) |

Egad, the gaming pedigrees here make me want to just shut up and listen because I lack references. I fell into the Realms maybe five years ago, straight into 3.5 RP knowing nothing but the PHB (got into the other rulebooks and the FRCS later). Read the first three of EC's novels (and a collection of her short stories) and loved them; read the Dark Elf trilogy but my liking for the books (and main character) declined from first to third, and I've yet to be able to force myself all the way through Icewind Dale.
Nice to hear from another gamer-happily-married-to-a-gamer. It's great when it's shared.
(BTW, major Nightcrawler fan, myself, whether comics or animated, and I always got a kick out of interactions between him & Wolverine)
