Hello Sages of the Realms!

As an ardent fan of the Forgotten Realms from 2E through 3.5 ... I was quite the happy camper. When 4E came into being, I was heartbroken. It pretty much took the wind out of the sails of me and my D&D FR group. So we took a long hiatus and have not played D&D or kept up on FR lore since that fateful day.

Well, the bug has bitten me, and I'd like to resume playing D&D in the Realms ... but I've had a change of heart and would like to learn 4E and also find get some pointers on the collective Candlekeep opinions on the new and revised Forgotten Realms meta-environment. I know WotC made some cataclysmic changes. Enough so that it didn't appeal to me at the time.

Now that a lot of time has passed and a lot of new D&D sourcebooks have been published, I'd like to see what the learned sages of Candlekeep think about the Realms from a 4E gaming perspective.

Sorry for all the writing. I just wanted to make sure you understand my angle. I adore and respect the old Forgotten Realms, and I'd like to continue doing so.

I'm especially interested in finding out what's happening with Daggerdale ... and in particular, Dagger Falls.

Respectfully,
Tina

The Dalelands were largely unaffected by the Spellplague, so id imagine thats its business as usual.
or maybe not, the 4e guide says that the fine people of Daggers Fall are cut off and isolated from the other Dales due to savage humanoids coming out of the Desertmouth Mountains and a resurgence of Lycanthropes infesting the crags of the Dagger Hills.

You might want to check out Realms of the Dead. Its an Anthology. IIRC it has a story set in Daggerdale.

The 4E Lore on the Dales is kinda sparse. Maybe Gomez will know something.

Thank you all for your replies. :-)

After poking around a bit, I can see that there are relatively few Candlekeep sages playing 4th Edition. :-( And you are right, the opinions are rather strong for those not liking the cataclysmic changes that occurred from the Spellplague.

Ugh. Somehow I get the impression that the interest level in the Realms has diminished a little since WotC's introduction of 4E (based upon the last segment of time I spent perusing these halls years ago). Well, I'll still move forward and try to embrace it myself. And of course, I hope to contribute to Candlekeep's forums as much as possible.

And now I have to go figure out what happened to Daggerdale in the post-Spellplague era ...

Welcome to the `keep!

Besides the Campaign and Player's Guides, the only other new (canonical) lore is coming from the DDI subscription articles on the Wizards website. But, ask your questions and we'll do our best to answer them!

Welcome to Candlekeep, SuperTina. I hope that you enjoy your stay in these hallowed halls, and that all of your questions are answered here by the finest sages in the Realms.

Some of the opinions on the 4E Realms can get quite heated. I choose to support the Realms in its current incarnation. I don't like alot of what was done(thats why I can change it if I want), yet what I have read is pretty interesting to me.

I know Ed Greenwood, Brian R. James, Matt James, Erik S. DeBie(sp), and the other freelancers are working to get this new version of the Realms up to speed.

Welcome to the Keep.
