Hi.
I have read the dark elf trilogy and the Icewind Dale Trilogy
and im now thinking of buying the books from Legacy of the Drow.
The problem is, i want the Hardback copies and preferebly, the first edition of these books, but i have no idea of how to know which ones is the first editions.
Can someone give any insight to this problem?
Maybe a link to some page that can help me?

Great cover, my favourite of the Drizzt covers. Much better than the ones that were put on later editions in my opinion. No, I am not kidding, I prefer the old covers on the Cunningham books to.
i actually really like the original cover to siege of darkness but the legacy was just all wrong for me. |

Chris and Wooly definitely are right. The first RAS hardcover was the 1st ed. of The Legacy, c.1992.
The series that you seem to be primarily interested in, here, was originally released in hardcover installments as "Legacy of the Drow", with each volume numbered sequentially:
They were each released as paperback versions about a year later, as well.
All of the various Drizzt books have been subsequently re-released as Collector Edition omnibuses/omnibi, "The Legend of Drizzt" versions with new cover art, "The Legend of Drizzt" collector's edition omnibuses, etc.
Subsequent hardcover "TLOD" versions were released with extra bonus material, such as introductions by celebrities in fantasy and sci-fi, interviews with RAS, a WOTC Drizzt book chronology, etc. They were no longer called "The Icewind Dale Trilogy", "Legacy of the Drow", etc., but rather were all lumped together in one master series as "The Legend of Drizzt".
The "TLOD" paperbacks omit these bonus materials, and instead offer maps.

I'll doubly recommend nobleknight.com. They're prices normally can't be beat when it comes to out-of-print material.

There's a lot of recommended online book sellers, like NobleKnight.com, alibris.com, and abebooks.com. Me, I just watched eBay until the books were listed. I did, initially, have several copies of some of them, until I found the right ones. |

And how do you do that? I have googled but found nothing, and i live in a small town in sweden, so thereŽs not that much information to be gained here, lets just say that about the only fantasy books we have are the Harry Potter series.
Perhaps i have to travel to the capital... there might be some info to be gained there... |

I'm pretty sure Chris is correct. I wasn't reading the books as they came out, but I recall the release of the Dark Elf trilogy.
I do have a first edition of the paperback of The Crystal Shard. When I had to replace the book, I made a point of tracking down a first edition -- that was what I had before, and I wanted to read the original version (Drizzt's age was changed in later editions). I did the same thing with Ed's Spellfire. |

I had a feeling that was the case, well then, perhaps i should just go with the hardbacks i like the look of the most.

Well, the first editions of the first six (I think) books were mass market paperbacks, not hardbacks. I think the first hardcover Drizzt book (and possibly the first hardcover Realms book, or even hardcover D&D fiction in general, though don't quote me on that) was The Legacy.
There have been so many different printings, cover changes, series renamings, omnibuses, "collectables" and so on that I'd be hard pressed as to what to tell you beyond that.
