after reading the erevis cale trilogy i was eager to move on to the twilight war. i had seen somewhere that the gift set would be out this month, and decided to put off buying the trilogy in single books.
now, however, i don't see it being listed on the wizards site or amazon.. however, it is listed at tower books

does anyone know if this is just rumor and i should buy the singles or should i just wait to see if it does come out this month?

Yes, a Return of the Archwizards omnibus is listed in WotC's Fall 2009 catalogue, with a release date of 1 December. |

I recall reading somewhere that in addition to Mel and Lisa's works, the Return of the Archwizards by Troy Denning will also be getting an omnibus. |

Did nobody think to do an anthology of it like Mel Odom's Threat from the Sea. While my copy of that stands a little higher than my other Realms novels (making it a great bookend actually), it was 'priced right' enough for me to take a gamble on it, having never read it before. Surely a Twilight War anthology would sell better, or is the pricing the same?

An omnibus edition remains likely, but they serve a slightly different purpose (as I understand it). I believe WotC's plan for omnibus editions is to use them as a way to make older trilogies more easily available to readers, particularly where it might be difficult to otherwise find all three of the constituent novels in print. So, you'll see an Erevis Cale Trilogy Omnibus next year. You mentioned Mel's Threat from the Sea Omnibus. I believe Lisa's House of Serpents Trilogy is getting the treatment.
I don't figure the Twilight War would be considered for omnibus treatment for another year or two.

I think maybe you mean an "omnibus," Kyrene. Anthologies are the short story compilations, like Realms of War. Omnibus editions, on the other hand, compile actual novels [usually three volumes] into one handy tome, like your aforementioned example of "Threat from the Sea." |

The gift set was postponed, and may or may not show up at some later date.
I was told this was because there were too few copies of Shadowbred still in the warehouse (this is good, indicating strong sales), and that in this economy Wizards did not want to do another print run of Shadowbred solely to fill out the gift set(this is not as good). Understandably, gift sets, with the twenty dollar plus price point, do not move all that well in a recession. So it goes.
I'll admit that this does not make perfect sense to me. Then again, ours is not to reason why....
Long story short -- if you're interested in the series, don't wait for a gift set.  |
