Mr Clean says You are more experienced with the Books on Drizzt than myself, but how about I clean that floor for you.
elven_songstress Posted - 15 Oct 2003 : 10:34:34
Okay no more chai for the elven songstress I commented on a topic that was way back...

I think I should go crawl in my furs now..

But thats neither here nor there ^_^

My favorite of all the books would have to The Crystal Shard I have read everything that was released on Drizzt even wanted to get Shores of Twilight but it was never released.

I have found that RA Salvatore seems to be having a problem writing for Drizzt, because he's turned the fun loving drow, with the inner spirit and noble air into a almost to sullen creature, he strikes me in nature more like his father then himself.

Now maybe this is just me but what say you guys?
elven_songstress Posted - 15 Oct 2003 : 10:28:32
No Drizzt and Mr.Clean ( not meant to be rude he just reminds me of the guy from the bottle of Mr.Clean in my youth), aren't siblings.

Okay don't read any furthur if you dun't wanna know

Jaraxal was not Drizzt Brother but rather Matron Banrae's third boy who was sacrificed to Lolth, still don't know how he got out of THAT, but here goes, Jarlaxel spared with Zaknifien once and it was believed by Zak that Jari was a better fighter then he, the whole thing with Drizzt was because if I am not mistaken Zak telling Jarlaxel he had found someone who he believed would be able to beat him....

End of the songstress's rant...

itīs one big story, from the beginnig to whatever end will be written.
so itīs hard to decide which one is the best.
i liked homeland very much, for it was new, a whole city full of drow, wow that was scary.
mikhel Posted - 18 Sep 2003 : 03:13:18
Being that I just introduced myself to Drizzt Do'Urden back in March, I can only comment on the two series I have read: "The Icewind Dale Trilogy" and "The Dark Elf Trilogy". Of the two,
Dark Elf stands just a little above Icewind Dale, because my favorite part of any character of Forgotten Realms is being introduced to them, and learning about their early years. I am looking forward to reading "The Legacy of the Drow" next.

I agree with Zemd, although I haven't read "The Lone Drow" and could change my mind after doing so.
Aeriden Raven Posted - 27 Aug 2003 : 00:33:18
It is too late, sorry I read Dark Elf trilogy first. Now I have trouble getting into Icewind Dale, but my boyfriend (who outread me ) promised me that it gets better as you read along. So I will try that again. After I finish Lord of the Rigns (for the 6th time or something )
Mythander Posted - 28 Jul 2003 : 17:20:18
Once again I agree with DrizzitFan. Although you can swap Dark Elf and Icewind Dale, but that is a personal choice. You will not be disappointed either way.

Happy reading
DrizzitFan Posted - 28 Jul 2003 : 07:51:45
If its not too late, Icewind Dale was setup to feature the barbarian Wulfgar, Drizzt was supposted to be a supporting character for Wulfgar. After developing the character and book, RAS realised that there was something special (according to his website rasalvatore.com) abt that drow and the rest is history.

Suggestion is to read Icewind Dale first to get a feel of him as thought out by RAS and then the Dark Elf series thereafter for character development regardless of chronology. The rest come after that.

The Drizzt books in chronological order (not by when the books were written) copied from above site are:
The Dark Elf Trilogy
Homeland
Exile
Sojourn
The Icewind Dale Trilogy
The Crystal Shard
Streams of Silver
The Halfling's Gem
Legacy of the Drow
The Legacy
Starless Night
Siege of Darkness
Passage to Dawn
Paths of Darkness
The Silent Blade
The Spine of the World
Servant of the Shard
Sea of Swords
The Hunter's Blades Trilogy
The Thousand Orcs
The Lone Drow (October 2003)
The Two Swords (October 2004)

Hope that helps.

Thank you everyone, for all your replies to my question, although I still do not know what to read first ;) However, I meant the chronological order and not the order in which the books were published. So I guess I will start with the Darkelf trilogy then...
Bookwyrm Posted - 06 May 2003 : 04:33:25
Okay, thanks. I'll dog-ear it (bookmark-for-later) to take a look after exam week . . . .

Fifty dollars? More than I got. I didn't get one cent -- but then, it was just a short short story that my campus newsletter published for me.
Mournblade Posted - 06 May 2003 : 04:16:21
Yes indeed! I have three short stories on here in the campaign logs, entitled URB, Melancholy Engagement, and Fooling the World. There is One I wanted to send to candlekeep butI sold the rights to it to the Society of Arts and letters, and they published it about 5 years ago. I can't even rememebr where it is but I got $50 for it.

Making Magic is Like Pulling teeth it was called

Oh forget it I have no idea how to post a hyper link...

Just go here: http://www.candlekeep.com/campaign/logs/log-melan.htm

Its one of my older ones. I really need to send some newer ones.

Bookwyrm Posted - 06 May 2003 : 04:08:15
I didn't know you were a writer too, Mournblade. Or maybe I did and I'm just too tired to remember it now . . . have you mentioned it on here before?
KlarthAilerion Posted - 05 May 2003 : 21:38:58
personally, I think reading about Zaknafien in Realms of the Underdark before reading the Dark Elf Trilogy makes the story even better. That's how I originally did it, anyway. Icewind Dale Trilogy can come before or after, depending on how you like to put your tales together.

Then again, what do I know? I'm personally getting a little tired of so many Realms novels published about one central character, but I'm apparently in the (vocal) minority.

LOL Publication dates are irrelevant, its the stories timelines that are important.

I must have missed your previous bleats on that particular subject, Bookwyrm, ill pay more attention in future

Rad if it was the timeline that was important and not the stories, would you even give a RATS ARSE about that whiney, arrogant, stupid, uninspiring kid called ANAKIN SKYWALKER???? Why do people even like him? Becasue they know he will one day become the great villain DARTH VADER. Granted George Lucas COULD have made the Phantom Menace and Clone Wars GOOD stand alone movies if he wanted too. But now anakin skywalker will go down is my book as irrelevant.

From the perspective of a writer, if the so called first three books were made first, there would be a radically different flavour to them than they have now. RA salvatore would have wrote them differently. He would have had to do more CHaracter Development of drizzt. He did not need to do that, because of the icewind dale trilogy. Drizzt was already developed. All RA salvatore had to do was explain HOW he got that way. CERTAINLY the Ice wind dale trilogy would of lose its flare by reading the Homeland trilogy first. You may not think so because you did not read the ICEWIND DALE TRILOGY first. Maybe it is because I am a writer that it loses its flare, but I think if you think about it it will.

Phantom Menace and Clone Wars had about as much flare as a lightning bug in any case.

I wish I could send Jar Jar Binks to a land of Torment where only GUNGANS, KENDER, and GULLY DWARVES live.

Finally! Someone agrees with me! I think you're the first person to do that.

I'm sure Rad wasn't referreing to publication dates, BW, but to when things happen in the stories. The happenings in the Dark Elf books take place before the Icewind Dale books. When they were published doesn't really matter if you want to read in chronological order.

No Bookwyrm, Dark Elf Trilogy first, followed by Icewind Dale Trilogy, Legacy of the Drow and Paths of Darkness....... then the more recent and yet incomplete Hunters Blades Trilogy.

It is probably best, if you start with the Dark Elf Trilogy, as it establishes Drizzt as a character and sets into motion many of the themes which will carry on through the entire series of books containing Drizzt.

It also details his birth, his life in Menzoberranzan, and his growing disenchantment with the evil ways of the Dark Elves. It also covers why he left his homeland and journeyed to the surface. The Icewind Dale Trilogy carries the adventures of Drizzt on while he is on the surface, after leaving the Underdark. It would then be the best idea to read the Legacy of the Drow Series.

Good learning...

Yes, I agree. So if you want a collector's edition, get the hardback of The Dark Elf. Besides, the two forwards (Greenwood and Salvatore) are really interesting.
Sindrow Posted - 16 Mar 2003 : 03:35:47
