It does look to be a fun game though... |

Posted - 28 Nov 2011 : 21:20:01 Pool of Radiance was such a great succesful game back in the day. And of course, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 are legendary.
Forgotten Realms needs a new PC game that does the setting justice! |

Elfshadow and Azure Bonds were written under TSR's even more ridiculous code of ethics, and those are some of the best Realms novels we've had -- and they compare most favorably to a lot of other fantasy novels, as well.
Those who don't consider such books literature don't do so because of a lack of adult topics -- it's because shared worlds are looked down on by those who do non-shared worlds.
Adult topics do not literature make. |

Case in point: RAS's one FR novel that dealt with alcohol abuse won numerous mainstream accolades, and is counted as one of his finest works. I'm not sure why he was allowed to deal with the topic - it seems to have been done during the period of transition between TSR and WotC, so that might explain why it was so cutting-edge.
Its hard to be be creative with your hands tied (and if you look close, I am actually on the side of the authors here, NOT knocking them). Art cannot thrive without freedom of expression.
EDIT: And to bring this back-around, the guys in-charge need to get a better handle on who they license to - 3rd tier (or worse) companies should NOT be allowed to develop for FR/D&D IPs (that goes for all entertainment media, not just VGs). They cheapen the setting by doing so. WotC needs another Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter, and they need a phenomenal Drizzt movie to give FR the respect it deserves. |

Never look online for a "Besty Fantasy Books" list, because they are usually accompanied by a "Worst Fantasy" list as well...which is usually topped by the Realms/Dragonlance/etc. |

Posted - 22 Nov 2011 : 01:57:45 Dang shame - I just saw this for $14.98 at Walmart.
Guess I'll wait until it hits the $5 bin... might be worth it just to glean the lore out of it (if there is any worth noting).
FR/D&D needs a homerun... too many 'also rans' in the past few years. Reminds me of Marvel movies as opposed to DC movies (Batman, Superman) in the 80's and early 90's. I hope the same thing happens for WotC, and D&D starts out-shining some of the other stuff out there. It happened for Marvel comics, so you never know (and we could also use a GOOD D&D movie... or cartoon...)
Just... something.

Posted - 04 Nov 2011 : 13:43:18 I completed the game this week (gotta love study weeks... who needs a whole week to study for exams anyway? ) and I enjoyed the game for what it is. Too bad for all the glitches but I kinda liked the ending.

Posted - 26 May 2011 : 19:02:56 Well I finally got the game installed late last night. I must have a really slow connection. Anyway, I played it a little this morning. I went with the Halfling Wizard*. Things seem to be going okay so far. I've mainly been killing goblins and then I had to run from what I assume was an Earth Elemental.
The game is set in the FR (though I have no idea what year). The primary villain is a Zhent that worships Bane and seeks to conquer the area (can't remember if it was just Daggerdale or the entire Dales in the opening) in his name.
I don't know if it is a sign of possile future expansion of race/class combos but some of the feats I noticed were Halfling specific while others were caster specific. I'll probably be playing it more later on today so I can pass on anything I pick up after that. *I'm still trying to understand how Wizard, and not Rogue, got tied to the Halfling. In Dark Alliance I and II the arcane casters were elves. |

It is set in the Realms. IIRC this was mentioned on the WotC website and in an interview with one of the developers. Also if you pay close attention to the gametrailers.com video review you'll see a Zhent Black Hand Soldier at 2:05.
Yeah I know, but it is not recognized as such. No FR logo, no mention of it, just D&D 4th edition. I mean, the realms are the only D&D video games who proved to be succesful, yet they seemed to have pushed it aside lately (ever since choosing to place D&D online in Eberron).
But it IS set in the Realms, with mention of Bane, the zhent, and locations. |

Posted - 26 May 2011 : 17:14:17 Gametrailers.com pretty much destroyed it in their review. Looks like its quite glitchy, and only 10 levels advancement. Still not a word about it being placed in the Forgotten Realms (very sad). |

Posted - 25 May 2011 : 20:55:10 XBox Marketplace is finally back in action so I am downloading the game right now. Or at least I was when I left the room that my XBox is in. I don't have the fastest connection so it will take a while. I believe it was 1.47 or 1.74 GB and it cost 1200 points ($15). Hopefully I can play it tonight if I don't get blown away in the stormy weather (or lose my connection because of said stormy weather).
Edit: Just double checked, it's 1.79 GB. |

Posted - 24 May 2011 : 14:45:05 quote: Originally posted by The Sage Confound it! I don't like the sound of that either, since I don't really bother with online accounts for either the X-box or PS3.
I don't play any games online. The only reasons I have an online account are because I like being able to download the optional "parts" to games and because I have one of the newer XBoxes that has the built in wireless. It doesn't cost anything (that I know of) to just sign up, though the game will cost something (haven't heard the price yet). So, if you have a connection, you don't need XBox Gold or anything, you just need to be able to log in to XBox Live Marketplace.
I have no idea on the PS3 though. I don't have one and from the sounds of recent events I'm not in a huge rush to get one and connect it online. |

I think you will need a connection to actually get the game though. It will be downloadable through XBox Marketplace. You don't need XBox Live Gold to get the game though (as far as I know).
