Posted - 31 Jul 2011 : 19:38:09 Everyone in the world who loved Baldur's Gate has probably done this already, but I'm having so much fun with it I had to come and tell someone.
I re-installed my BG1 and BG2+ToB games, then found this amazing site with all sorts of mods. One of them, called BGtutu allows you to modify the entire BG1 such that it plays in the BG2 framework.
So I'm actually running BG1 with the rules and interface for BG2. It's killer fun. I have a level one mage with a familiar, wandering around the sword coast. AWESOME!
Anyway, I'm sure everyone else here has probably already done this, but it was totally new for me. |

I will definitely give BGtutu a look, if nothing else. The only alteration I've ever used on my Baldur's Gate games was the XP Cap remover, but I would certainly have no objection to an upgraded interface.
Out of curiosity - are there similar mods available for the Icewind Dale games?
There's also an Unfinished Business mod for BG1, which unlocks content that's already in the game engine but stayed locked at the time of release (some of which made the game more challenging, some of which made the PC & party run around a bit much; either way it's your choice to do put them in the game or not when you install the mod). BG2's Unfinished Business mod does the same thing. You might find it interesting, even if the other mods don't do it for you. Oh, and there are mods which make the both BG 1 & 2 more in line with P&P 2e rules.
There are IWD mods, at least for IWD1: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/icewind_dale/mod_guide/page1
Also, all 9 AD&D games are on somewhat of a sale at gog.com this weekend until Monday night http://www.gog.com/en/news/all_dandd_classics_up_to_60_off_this_weekend_during_our_3rd_birthday_celebration http://www.gog.com/en/page/dnd_promo |

Not only are they designing the areas to look like the BG1 areas did, but they are doing custom scripting to get all the quests and stuff to work as they did in the original game. The project seems to be nearing completion. Check out the link if you want to see the discussion about it and some screenshots: http://social.bioware.com/forum/Neverwinter-Nights-2/NwN-2-Modules/The-Baldur039s-GAte-remake-thread-10--I-think-3120312-1.html
You can view screen shots here, though I'm fairly certain they are outdated and a lot more work has been put into the areas since these were taken: http://s403.photobucket.com/albums/pp113/drechner_BG/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ32
I doubt that I'll enjoy it as much as the original, but it does look interesting enough for me to try it to see how it works out. Certainly a lot of effort has already gone into it!
Wow. Thanks for letting us know, Jester! |

Posted - 05 Aug 2011 : 03:11:49 Would be so amazing if they could just take everything from BG1 and 2 and make it modern graphics/sounds. *sigh* I wish! I'd never leave the Sword Coast/Amn. |

Posted - 02 Aug 2011 : 01:04:44 Thanks for the reminder Eltheron! Actually I played BG2 and ToB ten times over but never started BG1 because I wanted to play it with Tutu, which I found too complicated to make it run. I should have another try for it I guess. Best computer games series ever! I wish they would still make games like that. |

Posted - 01 Aug 2011 : 20:52:04 I find the best sites with the most up to date Baldur's Gate / Infinity Engine engine game mods are the Spellhold Studios and Gibberlings 3 modding community websites. Really well organised with literally hundreds of mods from (most useful) widescreen and text magnifier mods, which will leave your game vanilla but make it a whole lot easier to play through to full fan NPC mods (which - apparently - vary in quality from not too bad to truly awful).
Now, if only I had a computer that will actually run the games without keeling over... |

Posted - 01 Aug 2011 : 20:45:48 Read about it long ago and felt like using it, but after I installed BG1 I just felt like I prefered remembering the feelings it first caused me (with my very first char being a blue skinned wizard and dying one time and another), and decided not to install it. Both games are very good, but some how I feel like them being good for different reasons. |

Posted - 01 Aug 2011 : 19:57:38 TuTu is buggy and not updated in ages. Use BGT (Baldur's Gate Trilogy) instead. I can confirm that it works fine. And has all the perks of Tutu. |

Mod your BG games to your heart's content, fellow BG players!
I personally never use Tutu for BG1 though. I fully acknowledge that BG2 has superior interface, graphics, gameplay versatility via kits etc., and even better diversity in both arcane & divine spells in levels 1-3 (the dominant spell levels in BG1) that are only available in BG1 through Tutu, but original BG1's overall charm is too much for me to pass up. I'll simply get BG2's superiority when I'm playing that game. |

Posted - 01 Aug 2011 : 02:15:27 Yep, you have to do full/complete installs of both Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, then you can use the free mod called "EasyTuTu".
The site is located HERE. http://www.usoutpost31.com/easytutu/
There's one version if you have the expansion BG2: Throne of Bhaal, and a different one if you only have BG2: Shadows of Amn.
In addition to the main mod, I installed the hotfixes mod and also the degreenifier (explained on the same page). All the mods are free.
So awesome!
One hilarious thing I've discovered, you can use the standard cheats (I know, I know, cheating's bad) to give your level 1 character all the best items and spells from Throne of Bhaal and totally kick butt, lol!

Posted - 01 Aug 2011 : 01:42:02 I actually have installed it twice before and then had stuff happen to the PC so I was not able to play it. I have been thinking about trying it again recently. Do you happen to have the url of the site that you downloaded if from? |
