Posted - 10 Dec 2011 : 19:31:47 first, it's been a long while since i've been here to Candlekeep, so well met.
rebrowsing the maps from the old Netheril box recently, i see that Monikar was where Shadowdale is now. yea, i know, i'm slow sometimes. so before i go sounding like a noob in the Chamber of Sages, i figured i'd be a noob here first.
does anybody recall anything official (beyond the Monikar entry in the Netheril box) being published regarding:
- the interaction between the humans of Monikar and the phaerimm, before/after the fall of Netheril; they were apparently among the few humans to have successful dealings with the phaerimm. - the priests/sages/reallyscarypeople (Monikarrans? karrites?) musing on the nature/agenda of phaerimm, collecting lore perhaps; Dagger's Point is another place that the phaerimm left alone, and it was close enough physically and psychologically that refugees from the eventual fall of the western city probably came to Monikar. - Elminster finding Shadowdale an appealing place to hang out for a few centuries due in part perhaps to lingering Monikarran spirits or the magical/psychic residue left by this area once being the logical repository of the lion's share of information mortals have ever had about the phaerimm.
i haven't read most of the novels, but i have most of the 2e/3e stuff that could shed light on Shadowdale and i haven't run across any connections therein. did i miss anything?
many thanks for your time.

Posted - 25 Dec 2011 : 02:39:59 I don't think anyone's ever asked about Monikar-Shadowdale before. Hardly a noob question at all, arm thyself with thine worthy query and boldly burst forth into the overly vaunted High Chamber of Grand Poobah Sages. I suggest using this entryway, it's perhaps my personal favourite because the grating shriek of the hinges heralds your arrival in a most satisfyingly dissonant manner. 'Ware the answers ye receive for the sages are sometimes rather incoherent when suddenly awakened.
I think it unlikely that Ed is an expert authority about published Netheril, since my understanding is that he was largely uninvolved in these areas of canon development. But Ed's knowledge of Shadowdale's history is astonishingly exhaustive and utterly without peer. |

Posted - 25 Dec 2011 : 02:08:34 If there have been any interactions between the humans of Monikar and the phaerimm, they're not recorded at all because the phaerimm most likely disguised themselves as humans.
As far as I can remember, Monikar was not mentioned in Return of the Archwizards. |
