Posted - 26 Dec 2011 : 10:47:54 Hello,
Reading my "Empire of the Elves" supplement i found mention of the Vault of Ages (twice) and info online mention a bit more background but what I can't find listed in the map of Myth Drannor here: http://www.nj-pbem.com/Face2Face/Handouts/MythDrannorMap.htm
or in any maps of Cormanthor (I lost the maps that came with Empire of the Elves so it may be there) is the location.
Could someone please help me with where the locaction within Cormanthor/thyr or Myth Drannor the actual Vault is?
Any info on the location, size, etc are appreciated (and if there are details of it's defenses, etc that would be even better).
All i know is of the Baelnorn defenders.
Regards,

Posted - 27 Dec 2011 : 15:07:46 The novel says that the Vault is beneath the city, somewhere far below, probably only accessible through magic. The Lost Library of Cormanthyr is in the caverns of Rainydale, near the Standing Stone.
Then there are the lore-vaults of Uvaeren, also somewhere in Mistledale. I think these are the richest, containing selu-kiiras. |

Posted - 27 Dec 2011 : 09:59:20 I haven't read "Elminster in Myth Drannor", is the Vault necessarily inside the city? Cause I remember that the "Lost Library of Cormanthyr" stands outside the city, in a place near to Mistledale. It seems they are NOT one and the same, but maybe they have this in common, being an important place to the city but being not in its propers. However, the novel can imply otherwise. Anyone? |

Posted - 26 Dec 2011 : 12:41:00 I'm going from memory by what I recall of my reading of Cormanthyr, and, what Steven Schend has said here at Candlekeep, but I think the Vault of Ages was a hidden locale -- thus, it's location has never been properly referenced.
As for what little we know about the Vault, Steven Schend once also shared this tantalising tidbit back in August 2006:-
"To quote Howard Carter (finder of Tut's tomb), "Wondrous things...." The Vault of Ages has lots and lots of secrets, tomes, tombs, and other things I've not thought about in years. I think it's more a catch-all of lore and stuff to hide than Candlekeep, though. That's just been my impression.
No floorplans or lists of things therein, I'm afraid. I'd have to reread what we'd said in the past before I could get any new ideas rolling....so mayhaps I'll do so soon...."
