Have been playing the NWN mods of Pool of Radiance and Azure Bonds. I've also read the novelization of Pool of Radiance.

I am curious: Who is Tyranthraxus and where does he fit into Realms Lore? Is he some kind of Yugoloth/Baatezu/Tanar'ri or even a minor deity?

Some of the journal entries in P.O.R. suggest he was a general of an evil army that burst into flames, hence "The Flamed One", but perhaps that was another one of his possessions.

Does anyone know who or what he really is and where he originated?

There was an entry for Tyranthraxus in the 2E tome Villain's Lorebook, available for free download from WotC (I'm starting to sound like Wooly with my linking):

He was actually one of my favorite 'monsters' from the tome, and the reason I went and bought the trilogy. However, I found the first five chapters too terrible to go on - they felt like the book was written for a ten-year-old. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't even finish the book for what I considered to be the horrible writing style. Didn't even get to see Tyranthraxus in action.

According to the Cloak & Dagger web enhancement, he's a demipower. :)

(Curiously, the term ‘Seven Lost Gods’ has its roots in antiquity. It more properly refers to seven demipowers that bowed down before Bane long ago: Maram of the Great Spear, Haask the Voice of Hargut, Tyranthraxus the Flamed One, Borem of the Lake of Boiling Mud, Camnod the Unseen, and two whose names have been forgotten.)

Not to be confused with the other set of the Seven Lost Gods that are mentioned in Cloak & Dagger. Yes, we just had this debate on the WOTC boards and Eric said there are two sets. :)

Tyranthraxus was the spirit that was possesing the bronze dragon in Pool of Radiance. He was a very old spirit that corrupted things from time to time, though I don't think there has ever been a really in depth look at what Tyranthraxus was, other than his title, the possessing spirit.

Ruins of Adventure, and old 1st Edition adventure would have a bit more on this, as would Pool of Radiance the novel.

I believe Tyranthraxus is the dragon featured in the Pool of Radiance novel and lives below the castle in Phlan.

I might be entirely wrong, as it's one of the first FR novels I read, a good while ago, so apologies.
