Well met all,
I am looking to find sourcebooks that deal with what happened during the ToT. I ran a search, but was unalbe to find a scroll that had what I needed. I found bits and pieces, but most seem to be from novels. Is there a source from either 2e or 3e (we have F&P) that details the ToT, or will I need to read the novels?
Thanks for any help, and I apologize if this was covered elsewhere.

We are lucky in the fact that there are 3 used book stores, 1 good comic book store, a hobby store, and 1 really good gaming store in the area....first good thing about living near a college town that I can remember. I'll have to recheck the used stores (been about a month) and then actually go look in the hobby store. At one point in time they had a huge selection of 2e stuff, almost a whole book case worth.  |

Truly, as long as you take reasonable precautions, buying online is safe. I've done hundreds of online transactions -- mostly thru eBay -- and I've had very few problems.
In fact, I just listened to a CD that arrived in the mail today. I bought it on eBay Saturday afternoon...
And a lot of eBay sellers and other websites do offer methods by which you keep the actual transfer of money offline. It's only recently that I've moved to paying for everything online -- most of my eBay auctions, I'd win and then drop a check or MO in the mail.
Anyway, putting aside that... Your best bet would then be any comic and game stores -- a lot of these places will stock older, long out-of-print gaming stuff. Yesterday, at my FLGS, I was looking at some 1st edition D&D stuff.
Used book stores may be useful, too, though I tend to doubt it. Oh, and I bought three or four of the old FR-series of sourcebooks from a used toy store... |

Indeed.
And dragontrove.com had copies of both the FR Atlas and the DL Atlas still available as of late last week (Thursday-ish).

The old FR Atlas by Karen Wynn Fonstad, if you can get your hands on one -- its long OOP, summarized the original trilogy and where all the characters were day by day IIRC. |

If you have any difficulty finding these sourcebooks, let us know here. We can direct you to various online sites that trade in FR materials -- nobleknight.com and dragontrove.com being among the most popular.
Additionally, you may try the free FR sourcebook downloads on the WotC site (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads) for 2e books. Some of which contain references to the events and places of the ToT as I mentioned previously.

The 2e adventure modules based around the Time of Troubles -- being Shadowdale, Tantras, and Waterdeep -- provide a basic detailing of the events.
The 2e FR boxed set elaborates on some events that related to specific regions of the Realms. Add to that, the numerous references in many different sourcebooks -- both 2e and 3e. If you search through the 2e tomes that focus on areas where events during the ToT were played out, you're sure to come across the odd reference here and there.
The 2e deity-triad series of god-books (Faiths & Avatars, Demihuman Deities, and Powers & Pantheons) also provide a lot of information about the events and the deities involved -- each in individual deity entries.
The main source however remains the AVATAR trilogy of novels.
