I thought I would diverge from the Jeanby thread and make up something more serious. I'd like to talk about the Wildlife of the Moonshaes beyond the Pack, the Leviathan, and Kammeryn (sp?). I have the Moonshaes book (FR2), I made sure I bought it since the Moonshae Isles are one of my favorite places in the Realms. Icewind Dale is the other.
While the Moonshaes are detailed, you have to remember that the Moonshaes are almost the same latitude as the Galapagos or the Hawaiian islands. To keep the climate more like Britain, there might be a cold current to moderate the climate. Still, you would have interesting wildlife.
I suggest that the two booby bird species might be found there. Along with the Galapagos Tortoise (although it would be called the Moonshae Tortoise perhaps).
Since two races of both Celts and Northmen dwell there, the druids would protect some of the wildlife from overfishing, over logging, and other abuses. Kazgoroth represents abuse of the lands.
So, what do you think? Any suggestions for Wildlife from your Realms or Moonshaes?

As just discussed in other thread, wild giant boobies might be a danger to the sea lanes.... not necessarily to eat the sailors.... but possibly to dump a chest full of caught fish and then eat them.
Plus, it gives a reason to have a sailor yell "'Ware a giant boobie approaches!" |

I would suggest Amarune's Almanac. Ed has mentioned it a few times. They are well written and deal with the flora and fauna of the Realms, they are subdivided into biomes but here on animals it lists for the Moonshaes.
Forests: Gore Boar Hangman Tree Ironwoodpecker Kermode Bear Moss Bear Redwood Crawler White Stag
Coasts: Dessurk Dire Shark Dragon Slug Otter Sand Elemental Sandcastle Mimic Sea Turtles
Arctics: Snow Fox
Swamps: Alligator Bloodbloater Bunyip Captorgator Hiveslime Ragondin Salamander, Ancient Salamander, Giant Zairtail
Mountains: Living Magma Springthorn Vine Thylacine
Grasslands: Flower Blight Pink Zebra
Some of the creature entries have alchemical uses for body parts, others have mundane uses like dyes, etc. very good series of books. Obviously they list all the regions of Faerun not just the Moonshaes. |
The party come to a town befallen by hysteria
Rogue: So what's in the general store? DM: What are you looking for? Rogue: Whatevers in the store. DM: Like what? Rogue: Everything. DM: There is a lot of stuff. Rogue: Is there a cart outside? DM: (rolls) Yes. Rogue: We'll take it all, we may need it for the greater good. |

Hmmm, never looked at this before, but you sold me.... could be a fun read.... especially if you buy the bundle of biomes
https://www.dmsguild.com/product/404913/Amarunes-Almanac-Biomes-of-the-Realms-BUNDLE
$19.95 for 8 books, and when I randomly picked one it said 50 pages. I got about half that sitting in my account so its worth it to come up with a couple bucks. I mean, they sold me with ironwoodpecker. I enjoyed adding giant woodpeckers to Anchorome's forests (which if I remember correctly were still only size small or medium... big enough for kercpa to ride).
EDIT: first look... nice.. checking the forest one first. The maps, not so special, but the 8 books are looking like they'll be fun. |

I personally like the map, works nice as an in game handout and it's also suppose to represent Amarune's travels. If you check the later volumes the map is updated, they add in the swamps and mountain ranges.
I would love to pull together a list of all plant/wildlife/monsters in various regions. Could use 3e as a starting point the FR DM Screen had a booklet it didn't list regions but it did list 14 terrain types times 3 climate ranges, and had day/night changes, and had dragon tables. Another project on the list of projects. |

The inside cover of FA1 Halls of the High King has a 'forest encounter table' for Cantrev Aithe and vicinity, and the inside back cover has a 'combined monster statistics table' for all creatures encountered throughout the adventure. They both might be worth a look.
