Hello.
A little while ago, I managed to pick up an original copy of Empires of the Shining Sea to round out my collection (and to cover the realms south of Tethyr, of course); I found myself impressed with the sheer amount of detail jam-packed into a book clocking in at under two-hundred pages. There are enough hooks in Schend and Donovan's work to rival the largest fishing emporium.
That said, I became (pleasantly) overwhelmed by the options presented. Here is a question for those of you who either own/used that supplement or are simply familiar with the region no matter your preferred edition of The Forgotten Realms: apart from the main attraction (i.e., Calimshan proper and the Calim Desert), what other locales do you consider intriguing and/or underutilized?

Stand with anybody that stands right. Stand with him while he is right and part with him when he goes wrong.
Earth names in the Realms are more common than you may think. |

Empires of the Shining Sea is an extremely good sourcebook, then again Steven Schend is a guarantee of quality. I have extensively used the Arnaden / Lake of Steam region in my campaigns. It is well fleshed out but has lots of plot hooks and open problems, it got cities but has a frontier vibe and it is literally at the crossroad of a few very interesting regions of Faerun. |
