One of the few things that I do regret concerning the transition is the fact that all my 3rd edition source books have been rendered redundant . But hopefully I might still be able to use some of it in the post-Spellplague realms, especially the maps of the numerous cities.
What city maps can still be considered valid? Currently I'm thinking of starting a new campaign in Luruar since the Silver Marches source book was quite detailed. From what I gathered in the new FRCS, Silverymoon looks pretty much unchanged (a few mythal glitches and a tavern change seems to be bulk of it) and Mithrall Hall seems as stable as ever. Any other cities that can be considered "play ready"?

How does it rendered your 3e books "redundant?" The whole point (as I understand it) was to create a "new" Realms that was tabula rasa. Especially if you only get one book (the FRCG) to detail the whole damn world. |

I don't plan on using them unless they have relevance in 4th edition (I roll with canon :P ) . Since Halruaa (and more) is gone I won't have much use for my Shining South source book. So I just want opinions on what source books still has information I could use to flesh out the new FRCS (especially city maps) |

That's going to be difficult, TwigB. The Spellplague changed just about every single city/land on the planet. Waterdeep and others are still around, but they have been changed as well, so we don't know if the old maps are accurate anymore or not. |
I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.

So, basically, TwigB, you are saying that your older edition Realms materials are "irrelevant," not "redundant." I was just confused by your phraseology. And, I agree with you, they are irrelevant now because the Spellplague plus the 104 year time jump has pretty much changed everything making everything before irrelevant except for some place and people names. |

I'm still doing my "slow 'n' careful" reading of the FRCG (as opposed to the rip-open-the-box woo hoo! "reading") and can't speak to other cities specifically, but since I've got Mistshore on the bedside table and Blackstaff Tower waiting beneath it, I just went through the Waterdeep entry. Here's some selections from the "Streets of Waterdeep" sidebar on page 194:
quote: Street plans and even building footprints of Waterdeep remain almost identical with those of a century ago... [T]he Lords of Waterdeep enacted strict limits on building changes. Buildings are still torn down or fall down and are replaced, but new structures have to adhere very closely to the outer wall outlines of those they replace... [T]he old maps are still pretty accurate--if you ignore the specific internal layouts of nobles' villas.
Hope this helps, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled orneriness. |
My Realms novel, Sandstorm, is now available for ordering. |
