Greetings all,

I'm relatively new to the FR setting. I cut my teeth on the PC with Baldur's Gate 1/2, Neverwinter Nights, Mask of the Betrayer, etc, and when I became a tabletop player after the release of 4E, I naturally gravitated to the setting with which I was familiar from PC gaming.

Since then I've been digging deep into the lore (I've already sought the words of Ed regarding Cyric's position in 4E), reading both the 4E and 3E campaign guides and other sourcebooks and novels. The Avatar Series was my first fiction stop, particularly Prince of Lies and Crucible, as I was intrigued by the concept of internecine conflict between evil powers, particularly Bane and Cyric. I was also quite taken with the theme of the Blood War as introduced in Planescape: Torment (which I understand is only loosely connected to the Realms) and how it might insinuate itself into the Prime Material. Netheril and Thay have also piqued my interest (the former due to its colossal importance in Realms history, the latter most likely due to Edwin from Shadows of Amn), and I'm looking forward to reading the Twilight War and Undead series to get a better sense of their respective flavors.

That all said, I just had two questions about the forums:

1. Are any of the subforums considered an appropriate venue for recruiting PCs into a Maptool/Skype FR campaign? After quickly browsing the forums, there didn't seem to be a place for this, and I didn't want my first thread to be a forum faux pas. This site really is a great place to find players excited about the setting, and it would be a shame to let it go untapped.

2. I know I may be stoking some embers here, but based on the reactions I've seen on the WOTC FR board, I'm curious about any general attitudes the forum may have towards 4E and post-Spellplague Faerun. While I have some reservations about the new setting, I've mostly embraced it(while selectively ignoring changes that don't jive with my campaign vision). I don't wish to debate the merits of the 1479 setting - as I'm certain many a thread has met its end in the resultant flames - I'm just curious if there are any general board assumptions I should know about. For example, if I were to ask a question about a particular nation/kingdom without specifying time frame, would the answers generally be applicable to 1479 or the years between the Time of Troubles and the Spellplague?

Welcome to Candlekeep!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!

As for the rest of us, we are friendly, mostly harmless, and occasionally strange... Enjoy your stay!

Now, for your questions... For recruiting, I'd say to use the General Chat section.

As for 4E... It's got its fans and its detractors here. There are those who don't say much about any particular edition, and there are those who are very passionate about their feelings for one edition or another. There have been many discussions for or against 4E, and some of those have gotten very heated. Not all, but some.

Thankfully, we have for the most part moved past that stage, though we do see the occasional flare-up.

We've got fans of all editions here, so if you were to ask a question without specifying the time frame, people may ask what time frame you're looking at, or you may get answers from multiple time frames.

Indeed, there are our fair share of lovers/haters of 4E.

However, we all can agree that while some may not like it, we are all fans of Forgotten Realms, and we for most part, as long as you don't go THIS EDITION IS BEST AND YOURS SUCK, we can be very mutual about it.

In other words, don't start crap about others editions, or try to proclaim yours is the best, and we're all very nice regardless of what edition you play.

I love PMs! Please send me a message. Even if its Hi.
