It reminds me of the Illithids having a pantheon.
I just stared and went, "Wha?"
And yet when they cast the ritual of endless night, can you think of a group that would involve themselves in more fervent prayer that they got the ritual right? They also have to periodically renew their ritual bindings with larvae. At these critical times, I can see offerings to their lich deity.
Beyond that? No... but then Mellifleur was never shown to be that involved with his undead followers either. Now, Velsharoon as lord of necromancy.... there I can see more fervent followers. |

Mellifleur from his very first mention was involved with the realms, since it stated that he had stolen his power (by fortuitous accident) from Bane. The fact that Velsharoon had Mellifleur as an alias, I always took to mean that something had probably happened to old Mellifleur during the ToT and Velsharoon used that to attain his divinity. That's why my belief is that Velsharoon's ritual involved Mellifleur's phylactery (in which Mel had been entrapped during the ToT) and becoming a lich.
Cool idea...
Maybe Mel's Phylactory was a suppository!
No wonder Velsharoon always looks so unhappy...
