| One might also be able to surmise, given my authorship of this post and my comments on the other Gen Con related one, that I will be in attendance. Other than the Candlekeep seminar, Living Forgotten Realms events, and various talks given by sundry authors notorious hereabouts, are there any other Realms specific things going on that people know about? |

I would love to be there, unfortunately I am in the middle of "life" which includes (among other things!): going back to school to finish up, transitioning four children to move from living with my wife and I to their legal father, moving into a much smaller house (YAY! No more five bathrooms and 9 bedrooms to clean!), training two new dogs...etc.
I really wish I could be there...if a miracle happens I will be... |

I'd love to be in attendance, but life is currently interfering... Unless something major changes, I'll have to sit this one out, again. |

Kris, there's a page up at the Wizards site outlining their seminars, panels, and events at GenCon this year, and Ed has hinted there may well be more that hasn't been announced yet.... love, THO |

| The 2-hour 4e adventure that is called "The West Wall" on the GenCon events site is set in the Realms, and it is a lead-in to the "Council of Spiders" D&D Encounters season that starts at the end of August. Those who play in Encounters will want to play it at GenCon (or at PAX Prime a few days later) to receive a special bonus for the Encounters season. I'm not 100% sure if the D&D Next game is set in the Realms or not. |

Lady/Smerwin,
I had noticed the high volume of Drow related material (both 4E and 5E, and heck there is a gaming group running G1-G3 at the Con! Lol) set in the Realms in the 'Rise of the Underdark' period. I have signed up for the 5E (or D&D Next depending on your preference of nomenclature) play test and their Drow themed miniature gaming as well. Thank you for the heads up! |

| This is one of the few times I enjoy living in southern Indiana. Not only am I 90 miles from Indy and GenCon, and relatives who don't mind me crashing at their house, but I am adapted to our ever so lovely humid climate this time of the year (although our neck of the woods is quite dry right now). Barring a catastrophe I will be there. Now I just need to order my tickets before the 30th. |

Will there be any way to get a summary of the seminar or something like that?
I'd like to attend to it, but -alas- I won't be able to go to the GenCon at all. |

Note: An unfortunate consequence of timing has caused the Candlekeep Seminar to overlap slightly with the Keynote address from the CEO of WotC (which starts at 7pm), so it's possible that the Candlekeep event will start off slow and pick up as notables trickle in from the end of the Keynote Event.

I mention this on another thread, but it seemed worth mentioning here as well...
The Lords of Waterdeep Board Game!
I haven't heard anyone comment on the game since shortly after it's release. I bought it, I was quite impressed with it's quality, and have played it 1 on 1, 4 player, and 5 player on numerous occasions. It's really quite good. Come from behind victories after the close of formal play are the rule, and it is very hard for any one player (absent incredible luck - good or bad) to get way ahead or way behind. Best of all, the lore is QUITE tight. There isn't a quest or building that doesn't fit the theme.
I will admit I am a little surprised though at the fact that I have seen no formal demos or play ops at GenCon! You think they'd take the opportunity to fly copies off the shelves (or debut that sixth expansion faction...). What gives? |

Probably unrelated to the Realms, but anyone want to take a guess what the highlighted part of the keynote blurb is talking about? "Join us for an unprecedented look into the future of Dungeons & Dragons, including the evolution of the game, the re-birth of a fantasy setting and the next generation of art. " Or if it is in any way tied to The Sundering (also under discussion at a seminar, with no description)? Or what The Sundering actually is? |

Dear god, I hope that this "rebirth" and "Sundering" have absolutely nothing to do with the Realms. Sadly, all signs seem to be pointing in that direction. |

As someone was kind enough to mention (on another thread), it appears as though there will be a full blown Lords of Waterdeep Tournament, so that's great news! It certainly appears that the Realms will be getting plenty of love this year at GenCon. A notable 25th Anniversary indeed! I am pleased I chose this GenCon to attend.
Speaking of which, I'd be remiss if I didn't remind you all of my little adventuring opportunity: RPG1238454 Play Yourself Adventures (in Faerun) (https://registration.gencon.com/events/38454).
Please take a peek and give it some consideration. I'll be in the crowd watching the Candlekeep event for certain, so if you have any questions, please do ask me when you see me (I'll make it a point to be obvious, think 'what would a cross between Raistlin and Manshoon dress like?' and you'll find me. Lol) I'd love to meet some of the august scribes hereabouts. |

I wish I could attend, but alas I live too far away (Maine is a bit far) . Plus, unless I win the lottery, I don't have the money and time to go . My vacation week is *hopefully* scheduled this year for the first week of October so I can go to one of the biggest fairs in Maine down in Fryeburg. At least I can save some money on that as I'm going with a friend or two and we have many relatives nearby to crash for the night. |

I will be attending again -- I have a reading on Thursday at 5, so wander in or say hi to me at the CK seminar if you see me! I love to put faces with screen-names.
Also, WHEN THE VILLAIN COMES HOME, the second anthology co-edited by me and The Bearded One himself, will be making its debut there. It's already up on Amazon in print, with other online retailers and ebook formats coming imminently.
Included in our pages are Erik Scott de Bie, Richard Lee Byers, Rosemary Jones, Ari Marmell, a new story from Ed, and even new fiction by Mercedes Lackey. It'll be on sale at contributor Chris Jackson's table in Author Avenue.

Sounds like a great (well two great actually) anthology. I'll be picking up a copy (of each) at the convention!

Thanks, Kris!
Be sure to take them around and get them signed. Between the two books, there will be {pauses, counts on fingers: yours truly, Steve Bornstein, Chris Jackson, Ari Marmell, Ed Greenwood, Greg Wilson, Erik Scott de Bie, Brian Cortijo, Richard Lee Byers, Susan Morris - that I know of} close to a dozen contributors present at GenCon this year. :)

Am definitely looking forward to going to both the Keynote and to the Candlekeep Seminar - I'm sure we'll manage to muddle through that bit of overlap! My whole weekend is a jammed pack mess of Seminars and interviews - Thursday might be the worst though, as I have only 2 hours the entire day that I actually won't be doing anything.
Hmmm perhaps I'll stop a moment and actually have lunch? |

I can't get away from work during the day for any of the con, so I didn't spend money on a badge.....
Im now guessing I can't even slip in for just the candlkeep seminar without a full badge? |
