What are your thoughts on the reappearance of Mirt in the recent Elminster books?

My initial reaction was that it seemed a little contrived, but then I decided that I really liked it, because it fit well in my campaigns.

I think I like it a lot, but I really want to see a lot more Mirt to be sure

I thought it was a very clever way to bring him back. Very original, IMO.

I couldn't not see it as contrived, at least at first, but once Mirt got going I found myself very happy that he was around and up to his old high jinks. Reading about Mirt is pretty fun stuff.

Look for me and my content at EN World (user name: sanishiver).

A touch convenient perhaps, but I'll take it. A shadowy group (blessed my the goddess of magic) snatching up important personages and preparing them for a future Realms in which they will be needed is no more odd than the idea of Arthur and his knights asleep beneath a certain Isle awaiting a day when the Realm needs them once more...

I only found it contrived in that he just happened to be the one who wasn't totally changed by the item when everyone else was. Now, if he'd come back just as bloodthirsty and they had to do something to make him back to the old Mirt...

All the other Blueflame ghosts you've seen may simply not have been nice folks (the surviving members of the Nine were probably negatively impacted by their falling out with Laeral over the Crown of Horns for example) and thus placed into stasis in a controlled mode as opposed to free willed. I assume we will get further exposition in about a week...

I was glad to see the old wolf once again, it should be interesting to see how he adapts to the future.

Mirt made that book. I kept thinking while reading: Get back to Mirt!!

"These things also I have observed: that knowledge of our world is
to be nurtured like a precious flower, for it is the most precious
thing we have. Wherefore guard the word written and heed
words unwritten and set them down ere they fade . . . Learn
then, well, the arts of reading, writing, and listening true, and they
will lead you to the greatest art of all: understanding."

He certainly dominated whatever scenes he was in. Looking forward to seeing more of the old rascal.
