Recent interview Bob did with the folks at Google.

Bob talks about needing information for canon purposes and speaks about asking, anonymously, for information on Jarlaxle. I wonder if it was Candlekeep

| This is a great interview. Almost not really an interview format, more a monologue, which is even more information. Thanks for sharing this, Matt. |

| Wow, this guy is just a natural story teller. Makes sense that his novels are so great. |

| He gave out a lot of juicy nuggets as well. Bob's a great guy. If you ever get to a convention that he'll be at, you'll find him very approachable and kind. |

Wow, its getting harder and harder to dislike people. I may have to go hangout on some Twilight forums just to keep my hate-ometer high.
So the same books that got him hooked on reading got me hooked (The Hobbit and LotR), and he also drove a Cougar (mine was a '68 - the car of the year - so I edge him out on that one). Scary how I have more in-common with him then I would have ever thought. He names all the same series I was reading at about the same time (then again, anyone our age still into the genre was probably reading those).
I think his initial response of "I don't" was probably more honest then he meant to be (I won't say to which question, because I am sure most of us here caught it). He is completely honest about not knowing the canon (which is great), and his explantion for it makes perfect sense (no-one could possibly know ALL the canon surrounding prolific IP's like FR or SW).
He seems like a pretty cool guy, and I appreciate his candor. Good stuff - thanks for posting the link. |

Heheh. You might be onto something there . . .
He says that he used wiki's (presumably wikipedia) to help him out when writing Servant of the Shard, published in 2000. But technically, wikipedia didn't come out until 2001. So actually, I think he may have used my inventory from his own message board more recently, to refresh his memory for Promise of the Witch-King (2005) and Road of the Patriarch (2006).
But that can be just between us. |
