Wow... Candlekeep! I don't know why I never logged onto this forum before... I guess it was just that I never ran a game set in the Realms until now.
I put my Hero System pulp game on hold so that I could run a D&D 5e playtest campaign, and I am putting it on Faerun.
My plan is to have the players play characters that just reached the age of adulthood the year prior. Each spring there is a celebration for those who have turned 18 (or the racial equivalent) the year before. They are given a magical gift from the community and sent on a trip to take the farming goods that are grown in the area to be delivered to the big city that is about a week away from their village.
While not a deadly trip, it can be difficult at times, which is why younger members of the community are not allowed to take the trip. It is a mark of trust in the players and respect that they are now considered adult and capable of such an expedition.
So what I need is an idea of where this community is... I am expecting perhaps one of the Dales? Alternates to that would be good too, I would like something with a flavor akin to the Four Rivers from the Wheel of Time series. What city would they be going to?
Thank you in advance and I am glad to be here on Candlekeep! :)

Welcome to Candlekeep!
Feel free to ask any questions you may have... A lot of us have been Realms fans for years, and we know a thing or three about the setting. Plus, we've got some of the authors and creators here!
As for the rest of us, we are friendly, mostly harmless, and occasionally strange... Enjoy your stay!
Now, for your question... I personally would pick some unoccupied spot on the Sword Coast, and have them traveling to either Waterdeep, Silverymoon, or Baldur's Gate -- depends on your preference, though I myself am a huge fan of Waterdeep and I really like Silverymoon. |

Thank you for the welcome, I am good with strange! I'll look into those ideas of yours. Before I logged back on here I was trying to find something on my own and I was thinking Harrowdale with a trip to Arabel... but actually Waterdeep would be cool, as that sets up a decent into the Undermountain. :)
