What FR Novel has the best love story do you think?

I think the one you mentioned in another post is probably the one which I remember (being Return of the Archwizards Trilogy).

Of course, theres always the love tension between Drizzt, Cattie-brie and Wulfgar which has been ongoing for some time.

The last Drizzt novel bring that situation any closer to a resolution from any of the involved parties?

I would think the best forgotten realms love story, would be(in no particular order):
Elminster and the Simbul
Danilo and Arilyn
Mystra and Kelemvor(while it lasted)
Ruha and Lander(?) from the Harper series

I thought Faces of Deception was good... from the Lost EMpires trilogy.. tho i didn't like the way it ended...

Shandril and Narm for me. It's so heart wrenching on how that ended for them. :(

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Does Narm ever develop into a stronger character and stop being a doormat/lovesick puppy/personality-void non-entity in the third book?

Hmmm? Not sure how to answer that. I had no problem how he acted in that book but I know you disliked it so I don't want to debate this. I liked how Shandril and Narm both acted and it fit every thing they went through to a T.... My opinion of course.

*shrugs* I recall reading in one of the Hooded One's posts that, yes, Narm is a doormat and that is intentional.

I haven't come across any novels yet that best fits into my definition of a love story, but if I do find one I'll let you know.

“Darkness beyond twilight, crimson beyond blood that flows! Buried in the flow of time. In thy great name. I pledge myself to darkness. All the fools who stand in our way shall be destroyed…by the power you and I possess! DRAGON SLAVE!!!”

Well I know one love story that bothered me; Drizzt hooking up with Cattie-Brie. Was it really nescessary to apply the "Friends"-twist to the story line? Drizzt could have teamed up with Alustriel instead; Its not sound to date your friends, espescially when you are a bout half a century older than them and they are the daughter of your best friend. In my country we lock people up for that kind of behaviour.
All jokes a side I think it is a bad love story, it does not feel real.
A good lovestory that I like (keeping to D&D)is the one between Tika and Caramon in the Dragonlance books.
I was trying to figure out a couple that would be fun; why not Entreri and the Simbul? SHe throws random fits of magical mayhem and Artemis can dodge the spells. This would also have the bonus effect of the Simbul ditching old grumpy Elminister for hunky badboy Entreri!

I agree with everyone about the Drizzt 'friends' bizarre love triangle. Its getting too weird and way too long. The best one was with Cyric, Midnight (Ariel), and Kelemvor during the TIme of Troubles. Though it could have been flushed out a bit more.

It lasted all the way through to the last Time of Trouble book, Crucible. It ended... oh man. You gotta read to see how it all ended...

Though I'm sure there are some FR stories out there with better love stories.

Just for the record, I think my favourite FR love story so far (and please bear in mind I've only read a fraction of the books) is the one between Jerek and Sabyna in 'Threat From The Sea'. Here you have two people who are obviously attracted to each other, but Jerek's struggling with his pirate heritage and subsequent feelings of unworthiness, the events of the novels conspire to separate them at different points etc. It's actually quite painful (in a good way!) to read. In fact, I found myself skimming the inevitable battle scenes to get to the character stuff between the two (almost) lovers. The romance stuff in 'Threat From The Sea' is some of Mel Odom's best writing, imho.

Yours,

JDD

Like I said in the thread "where's the love?" the best FR love story is the love triangle in "The Spine of the World" between Meralda Ganderlay and Lord Feringal and Meralda and Jaka. It's a classical style love story.

"Even before he first walked the world as a mortal, Cyric had the will to resist the random call of Fate and make his own fortune. As his newborn soul stood before the goddesses, he cast a light upon Tymora's silver coin, blinding them to his presence. The deities never saw the coin fall, never settled their wager on Cyric's destiny. Thus was he born into the world without any fate save the one he himself could forge." -- from the Cyrinishad

"Flushed"? Humorous typo there, m'friend.

I'd love to see the retribution over that one... What Cyric did was just plain WRONG, IMO. I'd love to see Cyric taken down quite a few pegs.

And I also liked the relationship between Cadderly and Danica. She having to deal with his new "position" as Denier's chosen.... and what it would do to their friendship (and more... ::nudge, nudge, wink, wink::)

But then I've only read a few of the novels. A very small percentage...

Evil will be dealt with swiftly as it is my duty to remove such evil from my presence.

I forgot about the love story between Liriel and Fyodor. Even some of the stuff that they had to sacrifice for one another. And what happens to them in the end (saw the spoilerish ending in Windwalker even though I don't have the book yet, but will when it comes out in PB).

Goes to show it's been awhile since I've read those two books......

Amazon has the release date as April 6th. Trust me, even if you are spoiled a bit, the novel is worth a read. Fyodor and his little raven did give a wonderful tale throughout the three books.

Call me biased, but one of the greatest love stories left untold in the Realms (as far as I'm concerned) is the 500+ years of missed opportunites, bad assumptions, and longing that marks the courtship of Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun and Laeral Silverhand-Arunsun.

So sue me for being a favoritist of Waterdeep, one of the first places wherein I got to write for the Realms. ;)

Wonder if we'll ever get to see Khelben & Laeral's wedding? I know officially that they're not married yet everyone in Waterdeep treats them as if that were the case, but I still have hopes.... :)

Can you imagine the guest list for that wedding or the seating arrangement? Good call on those two being a wonderful love story. I've seen many posts wanting a Bane novel in the format akin to the Evermeet and Cormyr novels released in the past. However, these two as main characters would be wonderful for a novel that spanned centuries and would include adventure, romance, etc., and of course, love.

I'll probably butcher the book names but I liked the love triangle in the Shadows of Doom books. (All Shadows Fled, etc.)

Between Sharyntyr(sp? The ranger Knight of Myth Drannor) and the two Harpers. Beyond the fact the Harpers were just awesome characters I liked the way it was friendship evolved into a communal love.

Not quite mainstream but interesting.
