Oh, c'mon. An illithid squid tentacle coated in chocolate sauce, warm, served with ice cream. Rubbery, chocolatey, and fattening. Yummy. |

A moose? Nay, he's wiggling his fingers as he sticks out his tongue. As the name of the gif implies, that smilie is giving a raspberry. |

While I like the idea of a chat room, I have to say that I am leary of an off-topic area. Why? Because at least one other site I visited that had an off topic area really got out of hand, and sometimes all it serves to do is to create bad feelings about non-FR topics that various posters might disagree about, that if there was never an off topic area, there would never have been a problem between the posters in the first place.
So while I can understand the desire, I wouldn't be too much in favor of an off topic area. |

The subject of a "chat-room" has been discussed many times here at Candlekeep. I would suggest you perform a search to find those previous discussion scrolls. Basically, Alaundo is still considering a number of options that can be integrated into the existing Candlekeep Forum software with a minimum of fuss.
As well, an "off-topic" section has also been discussed. This idea hasn't found much support either because Alaundo fears, and rightly so I believe, that such a section will net more attention than the actual forums and become a place for flame-wars and other negative opinions. Candlekeep is an FR website with an FR forum. And personally, I prefer it that way.
In my opinion, there are very few websites that can handle the responsibility that comes with an "off-topic" section. Another forum I frequent, the Classic BattleTech boards is the only other online community I've found that can provide quality administration for off-topic discussions, along with healthy subjects and intriguing matters to discuss. I stay well clear of most of "off-topic" boards on other forums I visit -- they've just become too nasty.

The Heavy Metal Pro forums have an Off-Topic section, as well. It does see the occasional burst of activity, but usually stuff posted there only gets a few replies before it dries up.
When I post something there, it's usually something really interesting, and/or something that peripherally ties back into BattleTech, like the development of devices resembling neurohelmets or the development of a substance that functions similarly to HarJel. |

I normally only post about subjects that interest me and some regulars on the boards -- comics, books, films and RPG-related topics. I don't get into real-world discussions in off-topic boards. That's where the problems usually start.

Well met
Indeed, I have no intention of opening up an off-topic section here at Candlekeep.
As for a chat room, as the Sage states, it's not been dismissed and I am always open to suggestions of good software for this facility. Perhaps it will be a feature launched as part of the Candlekeep v2.0 site redesign.
One step at a time though |

"Please post your suggestions here and tell us what you would like to see."
Well Again,
A. this is an easy suggestion : can you have by-year product pages going back a few years or so? You have by-year release pages for RPGs and novels, but I was wondering if you could compile them, so that computer game releases are there on a by-year page, as well.
It gets a little hard to track, for those that are trying to make a complete collection.
For example :
Complete List of FR Products, By Year 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000
Each of the above would link to a simple .html page.
B. text-searchable ESD download packages (not your call, but if enough people ask for this, then we might see it)
C. FR Atlas 2 (to see Faerun mapped properly, would be quite cool. 42 maps cover the whole planet 1 for the north pole 20 for northern hemisphere 20 for the southern hemisphere 1 for the south pole
each of the 10 maps would subdivide into 10 maps, and so on ...
(again, not your call, but if enough people ask for it ...)

Personally, I would like a new section in the forum:
Humor
A place we can hang out and make lore-heavy fun of the place we love, after all parody/comedy is the best way to honor something you love. |

What am I supposed to hear Kalin ?
I think any more displays of my humour at this time will get me hamster bites in the ankle, so I will leave quietly. But the ideas are good, it will give us a place to discus who will beat who and how to make characters into gods .
Yes Wooly, I will leave immediately.
Edited for strange dyslectic mistake. |

DONT SEE THE LINK IF U HAVENT READ : The Aftermath of Blackstaff Novel -----------------------------------------------------------------------
I dident see SPOILERS:, i was farst and i just said Year! I am reading this book, let me see what is about.
In the top of the tread they show the XXXXXXX spoiler part. The ending of the book. i Was in rage, this is XXXXXX iratating.
To all sage´s and to Alaundo!! Cant we make a ruel in here when u make athread with "Spoiler" the first thing u do is to creat a big open space betwean the spoiler part and the fist thigs u type on the tread. I created an exampel : http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8048 |

I don't really think this is appropriate.
As I said in your SPOILER scroll in the FR Novel section, all scribes are suitably warned before they open a novel-related scroll when they see the SPOILER tag used in the scroll's title (if it is used).
It's up to the individual scribe who creates a SPOILER scroll whether they want to include further warnings in their initial post.

And about that "SPOILERS: The Aftermath of Blackstaff Novel" thread... Not only is the word "spoiler" in the title, but the name of the thread refers to the aftermath of the novel. It seems logical to me that any thread dedicated to discussing the effects of a particular event would contain details about that event. In other words, even without the "spoiler" tag, I'd expect spoilers in a thread with a name like that. |

This comment probably should have been PMed to me. I used to have dyslexia when I was younger and spelling mistakes of mine like, 'teh', 'taht' and 'adn' are so widespread. BTW I'm not saying that just to get attention I really did have that when I was younger. It never fully goes away. |

Well, we all make the odd mistake here and there. Heck, I'm an editor-type, and I have the odd typo or misspelling sneak by me, from time to time...
What gets me -- and I'm not singling anyone out -- is when it appears people haven't proofread their posts. When someone manages to have three different incorrect spellings of the same word in a single post, it doesn't look good. Taking a few extra seconds to read over your post can make the difference between making a point and making yourself look like a fool. |
