Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) has continued to achieve phenomenal sales success in the past three months, underscoring its enduring popularity despite being released over a decade ago. According to Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, GTA 5 has sold an impressive five million copies in just the last quarter, bringing its total sales to over 215 million units worldwide as of May 2025.

This recent surge is notable given that GTA 5 originally launched in 2013, yet it still consistently ranks among the top-selling games globally. To put this in perspective, even the best-selling new game of 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds, has sold around 10 million copies since its February release, which is only double the quarterly sales of this 12-year-old title. GTA 5’s sales performance is further highlighted by its strong presence on digital platforms like Twitch, where it remains one of the most streamed games, with an average of 128,000 concurrent viewers and approximately 94 million hours watched monthly in late 2024.

The steady sales are partly driven by the ongoing popularity of GTA Online, the multiplayer component that continues to receive updates and maintain a vibrant player base. Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick described GTA 5 as the "standard-bearer for our industry," emphasizing its role as a flagship title that keeps gamers engaged while anticipation builds for the upcoming GTA 6 release.

The delay of GTA 6 to May 26, 2026, has arguably contributed to GTA 5’s sustained sales momentum, as players continue to explore or revisit the expansive world of Los Santos. Rockstar's commitment to quality and the complexity of GTA 6 has led to this postponement, but in the meantime, GTA 5 remains a dominant force in the market.

In addition to GTA 5, other Rockstar titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 have also seen strong sales, with over 74 million copies sold and a 23% increase in player engagement over the past year. This further illustrates the strength of Rockstar’s portfolio and its ability to maintain relevance across multiple franchises.

In summary, GTA 5’s sales over the past three months have been nothing short of phenomenal, with five million copies sold, pushing its total beyond 215 million units. Its continued popularity is fueled by robust online content, a dedicated community, and the anticipation of the next installment in the series, making it one of the most successful and enduring games in history.
