What are you thoughts on this Prestige Class? Do you think it works better as a specialization?

Not following, you mean handling it the same way 3E handles existing school specialization or for conversion to 2E or 5E? If the former, I'd argue the school is too small for that.

I'll try to explain. I've set up recruitment for a Pathfinder (3e) game. One of the prospective players asked if he could take the Force Missile Mage PrC. I was wondering how to convert the PrC to Pathfinder. So, I was asking if it would work as a specialization for Pathfinder. After all, Pathfinder had given us the Infernal Binder as a specialization. So, I was wondering if the same can be done for the Force Missile Mage PrC.

I'm not super familiar with how Pathfinder Specialization works, but the Prestige Class is...well....a horribly designed mess. Reasons:

1. 4/5 spellcasting. Um....why? There's really no point in losing a casting level for the mediocre benefits you get.

2. Its overall beefing up a rather meh 1st level spell that doesn't seem play much past 9th level or from really any moster that isn't saddled with Class levels. You get some defenses against a 1st level spell. Its just overall lackluster and super specific. Maybe if the missile mage Class was more varied, applied to all orb/missile/rays etc then it might be a bit better, bit as-is.....its just bad.

I have seen it played in an adventure before--it handles powerful on the lower end of things, but when you get up in levels--its not as good.

It's utterly stupid. Now let's do a Grease Mage, or Unseen Servant Mage, etc etc. Does this make much sense? And the only obvious reason a lot of that was not done is d20 community being entirely focused on dull hack & slash.
It exemplifies d20 trend of "the old haystack of obscure eckstra kustom rules is dead, now let's make in its place a junkyard of obscure eckstra kustom content, and make sport of smuggling our nonsensical mess to canon status".
