For those who are playing Encounters or are just interested in Neverwinter, check these links:

Design & Development: Neverwinter: An article I wrote about my work on Neverwinter, including themes and political intrigues.

Designer Notes: A blog series on crafting the D&D Encounters season, with tips for DMs.

I also have an Ask the Author thread on the D&D blog.

And finally, here's the Neverwinter Product Page, which includes links to previews and all kinds of goodies.

Cheers

Apologies to those who already know this, but I've encountered a few folks who didn't, so I'm posting it again:

My next novel SHADOWBANE (slated for a September 6 release, if Amazon is to be believed) is an e-book only release. If you see it listed on Barnes and Noble or Amazon as "unavailable," you're probably looking at the Mass Market Paperback. There are no plans to produce such a thing at this time, though who knows in the future?

If you want to continue reading the story that my last book DOWNSHADOW began, then grab an e-reader and get ready, because Kalen Dren, Champion of a Dead God, is about to rock your fantasy world.

Amazon Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/Shadowbane-Forgotten-Realms-Novel-ebook/dp/B004ZZKRLS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1313520560&sr=8-3

Barnes and Noble Nook: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/shadowbane-erik-scott-de-bie/1102955200

Here's the WotC product page about it (this says an October release date): http://wizards.com/dnd/Product.aspx?x=dnd/products/frnovel/335130000

you know what really sucks....

I now have to go buy an ereader....

is there an app that does that for the I pad??

I'd rather have one of those.....

Supposedly you'll be able to get it straight from the WotC site, no ereader necessary, but don't quote me on that.

I second the Kindle app for iPad. I almost hate to admit, but I like it better than reading on a Kindle.

If you don't have an e-reader, there's also a free Kindle app for PC/Mac, which might be cheaper than spending a few hundred dollars to read Erik's book...as good as book as I have no doubt it is! :)

Hmmm....well I guess that ends the debate on if I stick with paper or go to eBook with the realms . I just got Bury Elminster Deep in e form, so looks like Shadowbane might just prompt a total change. I'm woncertainly there is a certain sales figure they are looking at doing this with or all or most non-hardcovers that won't be in paper or what the reasoning is.

I am about 50% Dutch from my paternal side. Roughly, de Bie means "of the hills," which is funny because the Netherlands is a pretty flat realm.

Check back for updates as well.

SHADOWBANE releases tomorrow!

Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Shadowbane-Forgotten-Realms-Novel-ebook/dp/B004ZZKRLS/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

B&N: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/shadowbane-erik-scott-de-bie/1102955200

One negative "review" so far, but it's a non-customer complaining about the format. I'm very sympathetic, but that's just a little mean-spirited, to pan a book you didn't buy. Anyone with this feeling, I encourage you to write to Wizards to express your discontent, not blast my writing online, please.

Cheers

That's almost as bad as the guy that trashed one of Elaine's novels after reading 3 pages!

At least he read a small excerpt of Elaine's book--he hasn't even had a chance to read any of SHADOWBANE.

I think it's just a misunderstanding of the purpose of Amazon reviews. They're supposed to be reviews of THAT PRODUCT, not "I can't have this other product, so nyah!" It wouldn't even be a thing except that people see the one-star and pass on the book.

It's a shame, really.

If I'm looking at online reviews for anything, I personally look for something with a lot of reviews. Thinks I you can't trust just one review.

I recently talked myself out of a purchase I didn't need, mainly by looking at reviews of the product, instead of just how great a bargain it was.

My sympathies, Erik.

Reviews can be very odd. I once received an unfavorable review that harped on how stupid and atrocious a particular scene was. The reviewer described the scene in great detail to give full vent to his loathing and contempt. And that scene is not in the novel. There's nothing remotely like it in the novel.

Since I discovered that an unfavorable review can be like that, they haven't bothered me as much.

Great philosophy.

I got an unfavorable review once that harped on a scene with two female characters kissing. Which was, of course, totally in the novel. So I figured I was doing something right.

Either that or you are telepathically beaming scenes from novels from the thoughts in your head!!!

In which case, you're going to have to figure a way to charge people for getting your thoughts in their head. Ask your agent for help.

Not only that, but, ultimately, whatever the format [at least from my perspective], it's the story itself that counts.

I agree. I'm no fan of electronic-only material, but the content should trump the format.

Okay, so apparently there's a delay in making this available in Australia. I'm thinking I have to wait until the US hits the 27th?

I was able to purchase and download it, but only through Barnes & Noble. My attempts through Amazon were for naught, and since it was important that I purchase the book today, I decided to give up on the Internet giant and go through the place that has some brick & mortar stores left.

Either way, though, I has it. And I don't even need to leave my computer at work to read it.

Cool. Wonder what's going on with Amazon? I choose to believe they're crashed from too many people ordering it.
