I resolve, as a Realms DM, that I will:

+ use more spell thematics
+ give the Jordaini Viziers some very scary roles
+ perfect my (currently nonexistent ) mastery of aerial combat rules.

What're your Realms DM resolutions?

Incorporate more demands on spell components on my PCs and not just "say the words". Tough.

Hmm.....this is what my group expect of me being a DM and of course these are what I seek to do:
-Seek and develop more challenging situations to test them-the players.
-better the responses of NPCs and encourage more "pre-fight speeches" between the players and enemies.
-To be a bit more lenient as a DM.

We have fostered trust, recruited loyalty, and gathered the faithful. We have trained thousands. Our legions can cover the land, fill the sky and travel through the darkness. We can hunt any and all that would deny our heritage. Now is our time, now is the time of the Dark Reign(Rain) of the Empire of Shadows.

Good call I read some sample responses in the DMG II that just blew me away. I need to get out of that "he hits for 12 damage" rut m'self.

I don't even have a gaming group, so I can't make any resolutions... I've not played since the days of 2E.

Wooly, you need to get your g/f involved! They tend to make the best gaming groups.

As for my NYR - Incorporate more of the deities in my Realms games, and use detailed descriptions for my combats.

You need to start playing online, my friend.

My resolutions:
-Improve upon getting the party together and my adventure hooks
-Decrease the amount of railroading I do.

Then again, I did just pick up Paranoia yesterday...maybe I should just stop playing non-fun games altogether...

(Wooly, believe me when I tell you that I'm not in any way impugning your girlfriend.)

C-Fb: I don't know. I mean, I was a gamer who was simultaneously a girlfriend, but there was another girl in the group, and she was very definitely a "gamer girlfriend" - she didn't want to be there, she didn't know what to roll, etc. It really was frustrating to deal with, and there was that extra interpersonal layer of not really being able to tell the DM that there was a problem with her. I'm very grateful that that group was a very temporary one for me.

With all my disclaimers now intact, Wooly, run a one shot for her! Can't be THAT bad.

Or, hey, if you're in the DC area, PM me, and we'll set up a game.

Yeah, I can't see my lady being all that into gaming... I think it a lost cause to even try.

I was in DC last month, but only for a few hours (passing thru on my way to New Hampshire).

- Create epic encounters (as in CR 21+) for my Cormyr campaign without turning the Forest Kingdom into a hackfest arena.
- Run a seafaring campaign with villains based in Waterdeep.

...and still find more time to play in my homebrewed world. (Something got to go)

My first resolution is to finish the campaign I'm currently running!!! So sad. But my PCs and I haven't had any time to get together and game for a month or so.

My next resolution is to challenge my PCs more than I have in my current campaign. I promise to make the next game more difficult!!! *laughs*

"What's that," asked Mogget.
"Sardines," said Sam. "I knew they were standard rations, so I got a few tins for you."
"What are sardines?" Moggest asked suspiciously. "And why is there a key? Is this some sort of Abhorsen joke?"

Greetings all

I will confine my Waterdeep campaign to Waterdeep. I will not allow the pcs anywhere near the under mountain until they are at least 6th level. There will be no more then four players at my game table. I will award ½ the xp I normally would until they all learn to stay in character at least 75% of the time. I will kill off a pc at least once this year as its something I normally avoid the rabble have no fear. I will avoid the stereo type that is monolithic evil.

My resolutions:

1- Get my physical Realms material better organized and filed away.
2- Clean up and organize my computer files for the huge amounts of Realmslore I've accumulated over the years and back it up to my external.
3- Stop buying new Realms products unless they specifically detail brand new regions of the Realms previously undefined or new creatures, in other words, obliterate my addiction to horde repetitiously released products.
4- Go to that building in Castle Ward with the placard of a nymph and see if it's secretly been turned upside down, and well, you know...

I have been doing a lot of thinking and planning on my campaign this week. My resolutions are:

1) Really work on crafting NPC's with better spell lists and interesting PRC's and abilities that will present better challenges to the players. I have been trying to make interesting monsters, perhaps underappreciated or seemingly low-level monsters (kobolds, goblins, yuan-ti, grigs) and giving them class levels and interesting templates and wondrous items they can use against the party. Trying hard also to tie them into nerfarious organizations from Champions of Ruin and Lords of Darkness and Cloak and Dagger.

2) rather than generate random treasures, I am creating a master plan of "loot" where the treasure will be balanced, appropriate to party level, and targeted more evenly to the needs of the 2 wizards, the bard (I don't think I have every generated anything cool for the bard) the mute barbarian, the archer, the rogue (of mask), the swordsman and the Eye of Horus cleric that make up the party.

The goal is that the NPC's will actually use the weapons and items they posess against the party in fun and challenging ways, but that it will make for interesting, hard won and more rewarding loot when the party triumphs.

Ideally, every item will have interesting names and interesting backstories. Some of the items will have interesting twists or agendas of their own.

The wizards have been copying spells from the scrolls they have found into their spellbooks, so I am resolved to try to give out more scrolls with more varied and interesting spells on them, perhaps even ones that have a spell that will be crucial for solving challenges in subsequent adventures.

I want to come up with a masterplan of loot that I intend to give out over the next 8-10 levels. One that is balanced against the chart in the DMG regarding total wealth by character level. Which will hopefully provide the players with intriguing treasures that they really want to keep and use and that mean something to them and are tied to ongoing plots, rather than them selling everything after each adventure in order to get the money to buy the things they really want.

I have been making a list and checking it twice.

My resolution is to write up a few of the long epic adventures that I have been forshadowing for a while. After taking about a three month hiatus in DMing, I am going to come back ready to resolve a lot of BIG plot threads. My players have been great, so they really deserve the extra work that I want to put into these epics.

And Gray? Half-fey goblin sorcerers really mess with the PCs' heads . . .

Well up to now I've usually turned a blind eye to my gaming group's spellcasting when it comes to physical spell components (such as a lodestone and pinch of dust for Disintegrate) and treated all spells as only requiring verbal components.
