Well met

This being a collective scroll for any questions the Scribes and visitors of Candlekeep wish to put one of the newest authors of the Realms, namely - Jaleigh Johnson. Jaleigh's first venture into writing for the Realms was with the short story Queen of the Mountain, in the Realms of the Dragons II anthology.

Jaleigh's latest work is The Howling Delve (book 2 of The Dungeons)

Present thy questions herein.

Jaleigh, great to see you get your own scroll. And to kick it off with a question . . . how's the wedding going (or how did it go, depending on when you check this scroll)?

Wedding planning is pretty much wrapped up as of today, the big event is on the 14th, four days after Howling Delve is released. It's going to be a full week, but I'm very excited!

As usual, I ask my standard query as the record keeper for the forums. Do I have your permission to keep the logs of your replies? :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Hi, Jaleigh. Ed has "warned" me to expect great things from you in the years ahead, so I will be pouncing on The Howling Delve soon, and then awaiting your next work.
(No, I'm NOT trying to put pressure on you or worm secrets out of you, for that matter. And if other scribes try, I shall "deal" with them in my manner to which some of them have become all too accustomed. ) I just wanted to extend a warm welcome to your long-overdue entry into the Chamber.

My thanks, Lady Hooded, it's a pleasure to be here. :) I'm certainly glad of your help, though I suspect the other scribes enjoy it far too much when you "deal" with them. ;)

Just doing a revision on Jaleigh Johnson's Howling Delve and have to say that book is simply a treat. Amnian life (remember Baldur's Gate II, Cowled Wizards, Shadow Thieves et al?) at its best. This authoress surely deserves her own thread!

Curious. I thought we'd already made room for your own personal scroll here at Candlekeep...

Regardless, welcome to our halls Jaleigh. I'm certainly looking forward to whatever Realmslore insights you can share with us here.

Oooh, the book takes place in Amn? That should be a real treat. I'll be picking up this book at my earliest opportunity.

"Instead of asking why we sleep, it might make sense to ask why we wake. Perchance we live to dream. From that perspective, the sea of troubles we navigate in the workaday world might be the price we pay for admission to another night in the world of dreams."

I never had the opportunity to play the computer games. Up until the last year or so I haven't had a computer that could handle most games. ;) My primary source for reference on Amn was the Lands of Intrigue box set. That and picking Steven Schend's brain. ;)

So that would be a Mac then?!
Almost finished with the book now. Wonder whether the Delve will feature in some upcoming sourcebook. Seems to make a fine dungeon, especially the larger, unexplored parts. Any more book asignments on the horizon?

Lol, sadly, nothing that good. I just had an old dinosaur I used mostly for writing. Now that I have the new beast, I've played Neverwinter Nights and World of Warcraft.

Don't know whether that would ever happen, but I would love to see something like that for the Delve. A DM who wanted to expand on the unexplored sections could create a mini-campaign for the players to unravel its secrets. As for book assignments, there's nothing on the horizon at this point, but I will have a story in the upcoming Realms of War anthology. It's darker, and a bit of a departure from the style I usually write, but it was great to try something different.

Just wanted to point at the interview that is found here: http://ww2.wizards.com/Books/Wizards/?doc=fr_howlingdelveinterview .

I’m really impressed, that your career started with watching your brother playing – maybe my children will be infected too if I play often enough .

But what moves my blood is your coming exploration of dwarven society - hope you want back out of this now – there should be more of them stout ones. I didn‘t get a chance to lay hands on your book, but I will pester my fantasy shop with getting it as soon as possible.

Hey, thanks for posting this, I didn't realize the interview was up.

I think it's an incredible way to stimulate a kid's imagination. My husband and I are both gamers, we're hoping when we have kids that they'll inherit the gene. ;)

It's ultimately up to WotC whether I get to go down that road, but I agree there's a huge potential for stories. If you do pick up my book, take a look at Garavin and see what you think. I have a soft spot for that particular dwarf. :)

Keeping in mind that this is entirely from my own head, there's nothing official in game products or other novels...

*dons her Realms biologist research cap*

Quessilaren are small, harmless elven deer that thrived at the height of elven power, but that are now nearly extinct, except for a handful of herds that dwell on Evermeet and in the Mir. Over time, sensing their extinction and hearing the call of their dead, the Quessilaren developed an adaptation to remove themselves from the world and enter the ethereal for brief periods of time to escape predators. Subsequent generations belong wholly to neither world, giving the Quessilaren herds a ghost-like quality. To see one, let alone a herd, is extremely rare.

Is that what you were looking for, or did you have a specific question about them?

Hello Jaleigh!

Doing the revision just now ... am I right to assume that the character Meisha is an Elemental Savant (Tome & Blood; Complete Arcane) or was inspired by that Prestige Class?
You see, I like to include a RPG part in my revisions
